2. Cheap service
3. Costly misdiagnosis
This is my second time going to him. The first time he helped me pass my emissions test (major nightmare for me prior to giving up and going to a pro). This time I took my 1994 Isuzu Trooper in & paid about $160.00 for Luis from Andres Auto Repair Service to do some troubleshooting after I had my transmission allegedly "rebuilt" by National Transmission Technologies on Grand east of Pulaski. National Trans actually reamed me a new @$$hole (pardon my inability to spell that correctly), for $1709.00 to rebuild my transmission for the alleged 2nd time and I STILL had the exact same problems. Well Luis found out that the problem was actually a sensor circuit on my engine NOT my transmission that was causing trouble with shifting. Luis took his time, didn't try to push for unnecessary repairs.
Luis was honest of what may need to be done and dipomatically confirmed that my truck was garbage (LOL). I'm out $160.00 with him but I should have gone to him first, I would have saved the $1709.00 and maybe even decided to keep the lousy truck.
I left there feeling like I'd just spoken with a shrink (hence the $160 counseling session), he's very friendly, he is VERY thorough with his note taking on repairs and provides understandable explanations of what is going on.
Now I'm fighting against National Trans for my money back (Good thing I have great documentation and credit card). But please, you get what you paid for if you go to Luis you may hurt a bit but he's gotta eat too! At least you won't have to dump MORE money anywhere else.
Fair Honest and Good Work.
I have a 2003 Jaguar XJR. It's well out of warranty and spent most of 2010 bleeding money. I kept taking it back to the dealer who kept charging me outrageous dealer prices to fix it. Finally, I got so tired of paying these costs that I started doing research on parts, hours of labor per fix, etc before bringing my car in for repair.
After comparing 6 shops prices, Andre's offered me the best price. They ended up doing great work. Luis is a fair and honest guy who did what ever he could to keep my costs down.
I highly recommend working with these guys.
Quality, Honest, Personable!.
Quality, Honest, Personable. I own a 2001 Audi 2.8 A4 Quattro. A very nice vehicle in my opinion and I absolutely love it. I take great care of my vehicles and try to keep them in tip-top shape, so choosing a repair shop other than the dealership was hard for me to do. I didn't have time to shop around and because of the condition our economy is in right now I really didn't have the money to take it to a dealership. After researching shops online I came across Andres Auto Service. Based off the reviews of the shop, I thought I would take a chance and try them out. When I got there with my vehicle in-tow I noticed something. From the outside, the building looked old and run-down, almost as if the business was closed. I have to admit I was thinking I made a bad decision and almost went to a different shop. Soon after we pulled up, a young man came from a vehicle parked on the side of the street. It turns out it was the shop owners son and the shop was closed, but he pointed me to his father, Luis, and took my car in. After entering his shop I was kind of impressed. There were different kinds of vehicles from Mercedes, VW's to Audi's up on hydraulic jacks and nice equipment inside. I was starting to feel a little more relieved. I explained to Luis that I was having a power loss issue and told him that I noticed a fan that was staying on in the front right after turning my vehicle off. Worst case scenario I would need a new computer board. It turns out they only needed to reprogram the computer board and clean up some corroded wires, they also fixed my turn signals. Total cost of repair $655.48. Much less than what I would have expected to pay for at a dealership.
A side note, I took my vehicle to Fletcher Jones Audi and they didn't even look over my vehicle and told me something completely different than what was wrong with my vehicle tried to charge me fifty some dollars for doing jack-shit, I was livid! I made them get the mechanic and show me where this repair was and caught him in a straight out lie, they were red in the face and dropped the charges.
I was very pleased with the service from Andres Auto Service. Luis is a very nice individual. He explained to me why the outside of his business doesn't look that great and it makes sense. He would rather spend his money on good shop equipment and service than waste it on the outside appearance of his shop, that to me shows he's interested in performing quality work and addressing his customers needs. I will definitely take my Audi back to this shop for future repairs and I highly recommend Andres Auto Service. Thank you Luis for great service!
Very, very bad service!.
I took my car there relaying on the reviews. I have a Audi that just came out of extended warranty. The problem was a check engine light on the dash and I had to pass the emission test. The owner told me it is a oxygen sensor and it will cost me about $300. OK , I agreed to do the job and picked up my car two days later. On my way home the light came on again, I didn't have to drive it for more than an hour! I took the car back to see if maybe they disconnect something. They looked at the car, cleared the codes and let me go telling me that sometimes you just have to drive the car for a while. What a joke! On my way home the light came on again! I was so mad that I pulled to the first auto shop I saw. The mechanic checked the car and told me that they changed the wrong sensor! I had to pass the test so I just told the guy to change the right one but make sure it will fix the car! They said that they are sure and if the car is not fixed I will not have to pay. What a relief! They changed the sensor and the light stayed off for a month now so I guess it is fixed.
As far as Andres Auto Repair goes, I will never go there again. Not only they cost me $300 but treated me very rudely!
Honest business, honest mechanics. When I first moved to Chicago, I was looking for the best mechanics that could repair the various problems I was having with my VW Jetta. I turned to Eliot's first as he had great reviews on the internet, boy were those people wrong! He was rude, dishonest and tried overcharging me ($500 dollars for a mass airflow replacement?! Insane) just because I am a female that doesn't make me a dope to being taken advantage of. I left there discouraged that all mechanics in the city would be dishonest jerks. When I found Andres Auto Repair, I was skeptic. At the appearance it doesn't seem like much, but the manager Luis is so helpful and friendly. Him and his mechanics were able to identify the main issue my car was having, they fixed the mass airflow and saved me about 400 dollars, as well as welding my catalytic converter which saved me a good 1200 dollars. I haven't had any issues with my car since, and the welded part is still in tact.
Competent and honest. I took my car to Andres Auto for a second opinion after I had a bad experience with the dealer which told me the headgasket needed to be replaced due to an oil leak. Well it turned out that the oil leak was coming from a oil filter adapter Not The Head Gasket. Also the prices were much lower than Perillo.
took my car in for inspection/brake work. They said to replace all 4 brakes, pads, rotors, repack bearings, etc. OK. they made my car worse. instead of replacing as the bill indicates they ground down my rotors and warped them worse. after 5 mins of driving, all 4 wheels were burning hot; you could see the new grooves cut in rotors. They said that i need new tires and an alignment. the car is in worse shape than before i took it in and i am poorer.
i could go on but...
Great Mechanic. We took our car to another shop, they said there was nothing wrong (despite the fact that the engine would die when it idled). We took it to Andres Auto Repair. Luis took a look at it and was able to fix the problem quickly without any hassle. I'd strongly recommend this place to anyone.
Great Customer Service. I took my car into Andres and worked with Luis! He was great. He was very helpful and was able to diagnois my problem very easily. The shop fixed my car super fast and it has been running great ever since. They were also more than reasonable in terms of price. I would take my car there again in a second! Great local spot! I would recommend them to everyone!
I was very impressed!.
My car needed maintenance and I am rather new to Chicago, so I didn't know where to go. Through City Search, I found Andres Auto. Luis was the person I dealt with on the phone and he was always polite, professional and accommodating.
The figure I was quoted was actually a tad more than the actual cost, which is so much better than having it turn out the other way around. I was able to use one of their loaner cars for three days - for free. This made my life much, much easier!
When it was time for me to pick up my car, I couldn't get the loaner car out of the parking spot because it was plowed in. I called and Luis said that he would send someone to get me unstuck. The end result was that Luis had to stay in the shop 90 minutes after closing - waiting for me to arrive. He stayed in touch with me and the tow truck and I think the auto shop must have absorbed the tow fee because I didn't have to pay it. Without a doubt, this is service above and beyond anything that I have experienced before.
When I finally arrived 90 minutes after closing, Luis was still polite, professional and accommodating, rather than ready to snap my head off!
As far as the work that was done - it was $800 in brake work and general maintenance and, not knowing a lot about mechanics, I would never really know if the such-and-such belt was really replaced or the thingy valve was really tightened but ,from what I experienced so far, I have every reason to believe that all the work was done and done well.
My experience was positive and I have trust in the place. And that feels good!
