Love this place!. I have been lots of places for breakfast and must say this is one of my favorites! My grandmother is a long time patron, and asked me to take her one day. It's been under a month and we must have been back five times by now! The food is great, the staff is wonderful, and the owners have always been courteous and friendly to me. I can't believe that I have passed the place so many times and never stopped in.
This Review is for the Golden Griddle Pancake House located at 3030 W. 95th St., in Evergreen Park, IL 60805.
I have been going to this establishment for almost two (2) years. However, I won't be going back because I am feed up with the Husband and Wife Owners! They have several signs on the door that state they close at 4:00 pm. But, although the doors remain open until 4:00pm the Owners will not allow anyone to come in after 3:30pm nor will they serve you. They tell potential customers that come in and after 3:30pm they are closed. Several times during the Winter months I went over to this Restaurant at approximately 3:15pm and the doors were locked. I noticed customers still inside the Restaurant eating.
They do not have any HOT Water in the Rest Rooms. However, they will tell you that HOT Water is in the washrooms, you just have to let it run for a long time. I purposely stayed in the the washroom for 10 minutes on one occasion and even longer on another day and the Hot Water was still running COLD!!! The Wife Owner said it's because they sterilize the dishes to serve food and that's why it takes the Water in the Rest rooms so long to get HOT!!!
The final straw was on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 3:40pm when the Husband Owner told me and two (2) other African-American Customers that he was closing and to pay our bills and leave. One of these customers was handicapped and in a wheel chair. I wasn't even finished with my Meal! I asked him why he had a posting on the door that stated that the Restaurant closed at 4:00pm if he was telling customers to leave before closing time. He told me that he was the Owner and since it was his place and he could do whatever he wanted. I then explained to him that I was a customer with a long tenure and that this was no way to treat me for just asking an obvious question. He then said well you can stay for another 15 minutes. I informed him that this was not necessary and that I was leaving. He finally apologized and told me that he had an incident where some customers came in at 3:50pm and stayed until 5:15pm and he has to pay his staff overtime after 4:00pm. He also said his son was graduating. I then told him that this didn't have anything to do with me whatsoever. He continued to complain to me about other customers and some other incidents as I was leaving out of his establishment.
I would finally like to add that one time I overheard the Wife Owner telling some of her waitresses that the customers sitting in the rear of the Restaurant whom were African-Americans were going to have to leave because all they were doing was sitting back there talking.....Mind you, they had purchased food! It wasn't quite 4:00pm. I have also noticed that she will allow White Customers to stay in the Restaurant past 4:00pm. However, they seem to want or will ASK the African-American Customers to leave........No, I will not be going back!!!
The Owners are White however, most of their Customers are African-American!!!

A friend and I decided to got breaksfast and she said let's meet at The Golden Griddle and I agreed. We both ordered a Chicken Cheddar Omelet with Broccoli and my daughter had the mickey mouse pancakes. When I bit into the Omelette the chicken was spoiled I immediately spit it out, my firend ask me what was wrong and I told her she cut into hers and a pungent odor came out, we informed the waitress who then asked did we want to order something else, my appetite was about gone after that. She then came back with the bill and stated that she charged us for everything else but took off the Omelette. No apology was given considering the fact that it was chicken and had i swallowed it I could have gotten food poisening as well as my daughter who did ask for a piece.
Because their was no apology given we wanted to speak to a manager.
When the rude man came over the first thing he asked did we want the keys to his establishment, we thought he was joking at first. but then he began to rant about how he sold 54 of them things(at which they were) my friend said you have not began to hear our complaint and he said I don't want to hear what you people have to say. At that point I got really upset because Im not sure what he meant by you people but I take that to be a racist remark, then he told us to get out and dont ever come back. Not only was he rude but to do this infront of customers. He behavior was very unprofessional and unacceptable and he don't ever have to worry about me ever come back to that dump. Who really wants to eat in a restaurant the sell spoil food anyway?
Great Food, Unwarranted Customer Service By Owner.

The food was good. However the service wasn't all that. I asked for a grilled omelet, with lightly cooked hashbrowns. I specifically asked if the omelets were grilled or baked. The waitress said grilled. I said that was good because the baked ones are too runny inside. She returned very quickly with the food, but the omelet clearly looked like a puffy baked omelet, not grilled. I told her I would like a grilled omelet and the hashbrowns were scorched and I'd like them lighter. She returned the food, and came back with a flat omelet, which was fine, and the hashbrowns seemed lighter. Once I began to dig into the hashbrowns, I realized they were no longer flat on the top, but seemed to be stirred. When I dug into them, I found the scorched pieces throughout. I let the waitress know they had been stirred and she said the cook has his way of doing things. She asked if I wanted another set, I told her that was alright.
My company and I were engaged on a laptop while eating. While we were eating, our waitress brought our bill rather quickly. Moments later, other waitresses began clearing our table asking if we wanted coffee refills. My company mentioned to the new waitress a concern about the bill for a charge that we were told was for cheese: $1.25. The waitress said, "I know, it's ridiculous here". I also asked her if we could get a discount for the hashbrown incident. She went to the back, and a foreign man who appeared to be the owner came and asked abruptly, "What's the problem here". I restated my request with the hashbrowns. He began to rant about us being in the restaurant for 3 hours, using it as an office, and said we're just now complaining. He grabbed the check, crumbled it and said he didn't even want us to pay, "Now Go!". I was stunned. We grabbed our belongings and left at 11:34amCT. Almost exactly an hour. Food good, service - horrible! His behavior was unacceptable, and everyone should know.
Best Breakast around!!. This is a must for breakfast in the south suburbs. The omelets and the pancakes are to die for. Try the mini waffles or silver dollar pancakes with fruit topping. Fantastic!! The service is fast, courteous and the owners/hosts are friendly. Get there early on the weekends, as the place fills up really quick. Good Lunch specials too!
