“Very charming atmosphere.”
“the filet would have been good if it was hot, but we were afraid to sent it back, because we didn't want to wait forever for our food, the server were quick with hustling the expensive drinks, but i asked for a diet coke and never received it.”
“The food was wonderful and overly plentiful, the staff was courteous, and Judy, the party planner/manager was amazing throughout the entire planning and actual event (she went above and beyond to ensure that everything went well).”

Great Live Entertainment, Plenty of Food & Good People.
I attended a live R&B, Jazz and Blues show this past Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Hughes Restaurant and Banquets. The festive holiday decorations are fantastic. The restaurant looks cozy, spacious and very clean. The banquet hall is elegant and there had to be about 200 people at this concert.
They had a great selection of menu items that ranged from $5 up to a price for Lobster. The drinks are also very moderately priced and made to suit your taste. The bartenders and servers were great and very willing to service my needs! I never had to ask twice for anything and the food came in a timely manner. I was so impressed and so upset with myself for not knowing that this gem of a restaurant existed right in the Southwest Suburbs in Crestwood, Illinois.
That night Judy Hardieway performed and producer this R&B, Neo Soul, Jazz and Blues show. She was the star of the show and she was fantastic and professional. She changed gowns twice and dressed sexy/casual for some of her other selections.
Her background singers, Sharval and Ron, were also very talented soloists. She also had other talented guests who deserve to be mentioned, Rae Brown (this lovely young lady is really going places), Juan Coleman, Randy J., (these men are sooooo talented), Gentle, and the band for the evening was Soul Fedd with guitarist Smiley Tillmon (great gold hat and shoes). I felt like I was at the Arie Crown, but paid 10% of the cost for great entertainment, food and drinks. I had a fabulous time.
Please visit this restaurant. They have live entertainment on Wed. (piano bar), Thursday (R&B, Jazz, Blues, etc. by the Animal Houze Band -- Darryl "Animal" Williams), Friday (Johnny Gabor & Connie Marshall), and if there's no private event on Saturday, the House of Hughes has live entertainment. Scheduled for November 20th, Dorothy Roberson in Concert. Dorothy is a Tina Turner impersonator and she looks and sings great. November 27th, Mark Swain (tribute to Sam Cooke, Antoine Drain (tribute to Barry White, and others.
I promised Rosa Harris, the entertainment coordinator, who also performs at the House of Hughes, that I would review this restaurant and tell all of my friends. Please stop by and check out the House of Hughes for yourself. You will be very pleased that you did.
High expectations, Totally disappointed!.
What a Pit!
When you first walk in your treated to a musty bad smell.
Prices are high for a low, low quality food.
Food quality was terrible and I don't think they know how to refridgerate food. Any salad item was warm and not crisp.
This place desperately needs a makeover.
STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!
Thanksgiving Dinner. I had family come into town for Thanksgiving this year from Mississippi. I moved here a little over a year ago, so, I got a suggestion from work on where to take the family for Thanksgiving Dinner. It was great! Food was great, service was great, very nice holiday feel. I did not experience any of the negative comments I have read, the place was very clean and tidy. I would highly recommend.
Wonderful Party.
Recently held a Bridal Shower at the House of Hughes for my niece. I had seen the other reviews and was nervous, very nervous; however, everything was absolutely perfect!
The food was wonderful and overly plentiful, the staff was courteous, and Judy, the party planner/manager was amazing throughout the entire planning and actual event (she went above and beyond to ensure that everything went well).
The restaurant is clean and tidy, it is just in need of of little updating, but then again, only for the banquet rooms. The ambiance/decor in the restaurant area goes with the old school, family-style establishment that it is - tried and tested tradition.
All and all, I was extremely pleased with the entire place and I would recommend it without reserve to anyone looking for a great meal or party venue. You get a lot for your dollar in the party arena.
Thanks again, Judy! You were great!
eat elsewhwere. we went to house of hughes for a party of about 35 people, it had to have been the worst service i have ever seen, we were suppose to eat at 6pm and did not receive our food until 8pm, and it was cold. the filet would have been good if it was hot, but we were afraid to sent it back, because we didn't want to wait forever for our food, the server were quick with hustling the expensive drinks, but i asked for a diet coke and never received it.. the place was very dirty and the bathroom had a strong odor of sewer gas. we were told "this place was the place to go on the southside, it may have been, but that ship has sailed
dirtiest restaurant ever - disgusting food. this was the worst restaurant i have ever been in. the food was awful, and the place was filthy. i only took two bites of the food before i sent it back. as a professionaly traind chef, i asked to see the kitchen. when they walked me through, i could not belive my eyes. this is the dirtiest kitchen i have ever seen, this kitchen has not been cleaned in 20 years. just to mention a few of the helth code violations, there was raw food just sitting out in the open, not refrigerated, and no hand washing sinks. not that they needed them, because i did not see a single person wash there hands - disgusting. i would list all the things wrong in that kitchen, but i dont have the time. do your self a favor, and eat anywere else, a can of alpo would be better.
Worst dining experience ever........ House of Hughes (Midlothian, IL). I visited House Of Hughes for the first time this past Mother's Day. The food was absolutley AWFUL...... The establishment is very UNORGANIZED. Upon arrival for my 3P reservation they had NO record of such reservation. In spite of our party was seating in a very timely manner. We all ate from the buffet. The areas near the food were DIRTY. The food was NOT flavorful at all. The salad bar only had ONE selection for greens. I stood and waited approx FIVE minutes for salad dressing. The meal was not worth the 22.95 per person. I will NEVER return.
