Miss Peru? Haven't made it there yet? Come here to enjoy some fantastic Peruvian food that will make you want to come back immediately.
BIG DISSAPOINTMENT, BAD FOOD, TERRIBLE SERVICE.
I visited Chicago with my family and friend and we went to many restaurants, Iam Peruvian. I found this restaurant online and i thought it would be a very good restaurant because they have a very fancy and nice webpage but "The Ceviche" was tasteless and it didnt have the peruvian corn which most Peruvian restaurants have. The "Arroz con Mariscos" The rice wasnt very good, it looked like dough and the "choros" werent clean. Finally the waitress was very confused and wanted to charge me twice for one of their dishes.
I hope that this improves, it portraits a bad image to the real Peruvian food.
Tasty Restaurant in Rogers Park. I first came here a couple years back and thought the food was pretty good but it was such a far drive for me that i decided if I'm ever in the area then I'd be likely to swing by. Well three years later the place has gone through a bit of a transformation. The pictures and designs inside have doubled which gives the place a more comfy homey feeling. The people are friendly and the service is good. I've had many of there dishes recently and want to say they might have even switched chefs because the quality has improved. The anticuchos are huge and very tasty (heart kabob) the lomo saltado is probably there most popular dish (beef, fries, rice, onions and tomatoes) Ceviche, and more. I recommend this place to anyone. On the weekends it's nice because they have live music. O also BYOB.
Good food, Poor service.
I have been here several times with my family and fiance. I do love some of there dishes but there are a few things they should see to change: 1) Definetely the service, they only have one servicer and she's rude! 2) Parking is inconvinient 3) Location not appealing 4) Apperance of the restaurant poor. Yeah there are more cons then pros but that's the truth.
I love Peruvian food and my fiance is also Peruvian so instead of driving far to N. Clark he cooks and I must say his dishes are much better and authentic than taste of Peru. Maybe they need to improve a few things and they probably see the reviews change.
Don't let this keep you from trying good peruvian food at Taste of Peru. I own this restaurant. Several versions of the review "A Bad taste of Peru" have appeared on several sites, different dates, different names. I feel the need to address these reviews as I feel they are false and I would hate for them to be taken at face value and someone may miss a good meal. My restaurant is a small storefront restaurant. They claim waiters hide from them. They must have been crouching under the table because there is no place in the room to hide. The service was slow but there were only 2 people in the restaurant on Saturday night. Since we were featured on Check, Please!, there has not been a Saturday night when we haven't been full. They claim the food was served cold. I know this to be false. We make every dish fresh. There is no place for it to sit. It is made, plated, and served very hot. You will notice there was no mention of anything they ordered. I would suggest any reader read all the reviews and note that my restuarant has been voted in the Chicago Reader top 100 restaurants, received a wonderful review on Check, Please! and the November 2007 Chicago Magazine listed our seafood paella as one of their top 124 best dishes.
Very Delicious!. My husband and I really enjoyed our dinner at Taste of Peru. We had the papa relleno (delicious filling and a tangy onion salad that really complemented it well) followed by a tangy ceviche. For our entree, we had the steak and potatoes with cream cheese sauce (the steak was good but the potatoes were just OK -- a little too rich and not as flavorful as the appetizers). The flan we had for dessert was out of this world -- thick, creamy, very tasty. We would defnitely go back!
Delicious!. I highly recommend Taste of Peru. The empanadas were awesome and they have the best paella i've ever tasted! It's kind of a far drive for me but it is worth it. Great value!
Extremely fantastic!!!!. I was a little apprehensive since it is located in an interesting location, but I decided to try it anyway. I had a wonderful wonderful experience at Taste of Peru!! When we arrived it was completely packed with the exception of some reserved tables in the front. The host as well as the owner were eager to seat us at a reserved table so we didn't have to stand and wait. For an appetizer, I recommend the empanadas, they are fantastic!! The service was great, the prices were fair, and I will definitely be going back!!!!!
Traditional Peruvian fare served in an inviting storefront in Rogers Park..
In Short
Families and friends stop by this strip mall restaurant to sample generously portioned plates, which begin with ceviche, plus potatoes in fiery cream sauce. Frequented picks include paella that's perfect for sharing and aji de gallina, chicken in tongue-tingling yellow sauce. Other options include lomo saltado, beef sauteed with tomatoes and potatoes. For dessert, there's dulce de leche cookies.
Great food, great service. Hands down, my favorite in chicago. Great service, great food, and entertainment on the weekends.
