Disappointed in Dinkel's. I have been a loyal Dinkel's customer for 17 years. Unfortunately, the past 4 years have been very disappointing, and I have stopped going there altogether, except to order the one cake I know they won't screw up - and that is the White Rose Cake! (It is delicious!) The last two birthday cake orders were screwed up entirely. In fact, I had selected a birthday cake from the website and, to my dismay, when I went to pick the cake up, it was an entirely different design.

And my orders for Christmas have been screwed up every year for 4 years!

I do not know what has happened to Dinkel's over the past 4 years - but it isn't good. I only wish that they would improve so I can return as a customer!

BEST CAKE and BEST BUTTERCREAM in CHICAGO!. First of all I have to say that my husband and I just moved up north from North Carolina. We went to Dinkel's (after a friend recommended them) to order my birthday cake. I loved all the designs, and even though it was my 31st birthday I ordered a DOLL CAKE! Needless to say, this was the most beautiful cake I have ever seen...BUT WHEN WE TASTED IT...man o man...PURE BLISS! I have NEVER in my life had such wonderful buttercream...it was so fresh, light and creamy...The chocolate cake was delicious too...Everyone at the party loved it! And I think some of my other adult friends will be now ordering the doll cakes too! I had been wishing to share this cake with our friends in NC and just found out I CAN! They have online ordering and they have a chocolate cake I can send down to them!!!!!!!!!!! Dinkels=the BEST! Thank you for creating a new family tradition...We are super excited. To this date we have now ordered and eaten over 15 cakes from Dinkel's and they have all be truly truly YUMMY, beautiful and I feel proud to show them off.

never again. Let me say that i Loved dinkels until yesterday. I had been going there for a few years and always told people how great they were. Well yesterday i went to buy a small cake and order another for saturday. I was so looking forward to eating the cake, You cannot imagine my disappointment and disgust when i found a hair in the frosting! it was a long white hair, my hair is jet black, and it was actually in the frosting not just on top of it. As i took a bite i saw something poking out of the frosting close to the filling, i pulled it out and it was quite long. Needless to say i called this morning cancelled my order for saturday and all the manager could say was "i hope you give us another chance" NEVER again will i go there.

horrible owner. I ordered a cake for my son's birthday and the owner acknowledged the mistake with the order but was very rude and would not give a refund. He called two weeks after the problem and offered a 10% discount on my next cake! He was cheap and did not care about losing business. My friend just ordered two cakes from there (not knowing my experience) and I thought the chocolate one was bland. The vanilla and chocolate was better.

Bad Service. I was very disappointed in their service. I wanted to order a cake to feed 200 adults. But I wanted to taste it first. I could not taste the cake. If I am paying for a cake that feeds 200 I deserve to taste the cake. So, I took my business elsewhere. They lost my money and I will not consider them again.

Not as good as it used to be.. I was very disappointed in the bakery butter cookies I bought last week. I bought a box that was prepacked and sitting on the counter. They were stale and many of them were broken. I used to come to this bakery quite often about 15 years ago and went out of my way to come here for cookies for a special occasion. I was ashamed to serve them.

Can't beat the cupcakes - or, cakes!. The atmosphere inside reminds me of the local village bakery in smallville, USA. The frosting is unbelievably wonderful! I haven't tasted every baked item they offer - my waist line won't allow it - but, definitely give the cupcakes and birthday cakes a whirl...you won't be disappointed!

Walking back into the Roaring 20s. This bakery is the best one in the city. You walk in, and it just feels like home. The cookies are so delicious, they'll melt in your mouth. When ordering cakes, the staff is friendly and the cakes are delectable!! The smells that emanate from Dinkel's remind me of my grandmother's kitchen. A definite must visit!!! Though, they shouldn't change their cookies so often, the butter cookies with sprinkles are my favorites and sorely missed.
