In Short – Dick Portillo opened his first restaurant from a trailer with no running water in 1963 in Villa Park, Ill. Today, each location has a unique theme that reflects the founder's love of history and Chicago. Menu favorites include Chicago-style hot dogs (topped with mustard, relish, onions, tomatoes, pickle and sport peppers), Polish sausages, Italian beef sandwiches, salads, burgers and more. Sides include onion rings, fries, soup and for dessert there's chocolate cake, lemon cake or strawberry shortcake.

Portillos easily has the best hot dogs, Italian beef, and ribs in the Chicagoland area. I have relatives from out of town that ask to go to Portillos as soon as they arive in Illinois. It is quick, the service is super fast, and every thing on the menu is delicious. You could easily go there daily and have something different. Each dish is unique and simply mouth watering.

Portillo's is the kind of place that you CRAVE when you are in another state (or country) for any amount of time. Best burgers... great hotdogs... gigantic salads. Their large shakes and malts take about 3 days to drink they're so huge... so you may want to stick to the small.
