In Short – Dick Portillo opened his first restaurant from a trailer with no running water in 1963 in Villa Park, Ill. Today, each location has a unique theme that reflects the founder's love of history and Chicago. Menu favorites include Chicago-style hot dogs (topped with mustard, relish, onions, tomatoes, pickle and sport peppers), Polish sausages, Italian beef sandwiches, salads, burgers and more. Sides include onion rings, fries, soup and for dessert there's chocolate cake, lemon cake or strawberry shortcake.
39 years and still going strong!

Ok, maybe I'm a bit partial to this location, due to the fact that my dad used to bring me to the orignal Portillo's hut which sat on 3 wheels, I think, in the parking lot of the Big R store in Villa Park. That being said, I still feel that they have the best dogs around especially with the celery salt and the cucumber slice. Next year, will be their 40th year in business. That's pretty good for a hot dog joint. So, I've passed the tradition and it is my daughter and her Papa Marshall's favorite place for a hot dog.
- Pros: great beef's, chocolate cake, fast service
- Cons: fries a bit underdone, not cheap to eat at
