Tips for Golf Rose Animal Hospital

December 26, 2012

For more than 17 years, our family pets have been patients there, and breathed their last breaths there. I hope never to have to go anywhere else. Period.

When our new puppy was seriously ill our vet stayed late to follow-up on the outcome of a series of tests and x-rays that were needed. We were able to come in anytime 24 hours a day to sit with and hold our ill pup.

We usually see one primary vet but when she isn't there we have had care from other vets on staff. This attitude of caring pervasive throughout the practice.

TAKE YOUR PETS SOMEWHERE ELSE. My two-year old dog passed away during a simple exploratory surgery at this hospital a few months ago. I took my dog in to emergency care here because it was the weekend (normal vet closed)and she had been throwing up thru out the day. The vet on call recommended doing a "simple" precautionary surgery to see if there was something stuck in my dog's stomach. She told me that she would give me a call when the surgery was done. A few hours later I received a phone call from the vet "I'm sorry but your dog passed away while we were stitching her up, I have no idea what happened she just stopped breathing." As you can imagine, I was utterly shocked and horrified. Upon further questioning, the hospital offered me no concrete reason why there was complication with the surgery, which leads me to believe that it was neglect on the part of the vet and staff.

I have been taking my "senior" dog to Golf Rose for about the last three years. Dr. McClure has always been great with her and taken great care of her. The time came three weeks ago that my poor Ginger was so sick and I took her in. Dr. McClure was not there, but the doctor that handled by baby was very good and caring. They were doing tests to see what was wrong when I finally stopped them and said it was time to let her go. Poor Ginger was 15 and so sick and I just couldn't put her through anything else. The complete staff was very caring and the doctor tried to help me through it. Saying good bye to my baby was the hardest thing I have ever had to do, but the staff was very caring and let me take my time prior and after. As far as payment, the receptionist came in while Ginger was in the back getting the shunt in, but the first thing she asked was if I had ever done this before. When I stated no, she took her time and explained everything to me in a very caring manner. She very kindly asked what arrangements I wanted done, advised me of the total cost in a very kind way.As painful as it was for me we all know they are a business and as long as they were taking gentle care of my Ginger I did not have a problem with them asking for payment prior because to me after would of been much more painful.

I am looking for a new dog at this time and will most certainly take that one to Golf Rose to see Dr. McClure.

Their prices are a little high, not too much from other vets I used prior, but how do you put a price on the care of a member of your family. Dr McClure was always cost conscious with me and tried to save me money.

I don't give good reviews out readily, but Golf Rose is easily the best vet office in the Chicago NW suburbs. Their vets are smart and personable. We have an aging pug and they have her at optimum health in 2 visits. I havehad a few bad experiences elsewhere. So, I know of what I speak. I come from a medical family, so I have many comparisons to draw upon. Golf Rose is the best!

Mark the vet was really nice and made my dog feel comfortable. Now my dog is no longer afraid of coming in for check ups.

Thank you for taking great care of Gia during her vaccination incident, and for always doing a great job with Gia and Abby. You really care about your patients and its nice to know that they are well taken care of when they come and see you.

You know what? Having been to a few other vets around Chicagoland, I can't say I dislike Golf Rose as much as I (thought I) did. Grass is always greener on the other side, huh?

They're 24-hours and have always taken care of our pets. Sure, they screw up, some things are expensive, but other places screw up and are even more expensive. We've been coming here with our dogs and cats for over 15 years. I'm done trying to find a better patch of grass. Golf Rose is good enough.

I have been taking my pets to Golf Rose for over 10 years now and even though I've moved further away, I appreciate the care that they receive there.
