In Short
An Evanston institution, this congenial pub is a favorite among Northwestern students and professors. Opt for communal seating in the pub, complete with roaring fireplace or in the mellow dining room, with forest-green color scheme and soft lighting. The menu spans from steak to fish-and-chips; standouts include shepherd's pie, Irish breakfasts and mussels in Coleman's cream. For dessert, try sticky, satisfying toffee pudding.

This is the worst place to eat, drink, and just try to be merry! We went to this pub with a 30+ group from work and were seated in the dinning room at 3 seperate tables (with our backs to 1 large table) and as we were talking and laughing we were asked to move our party to their outside patio, just after we all ordered our dinners (this took thier waite staff 45 long minutes to finally place). We moved our party outside to then get carded, and yes we had a few under 21 (not drinking but enjoying the celebration with the rest) but as this was not a problem in the dinning room it somehow became one when we were moved...long story short, we where told that we couldn't go back into the dining room (it had been cleaned quickly...the only thing that was quick by the way), and we could not all sit and eat the meals that we ordered in the area that they had suggestly moved us to, but yet we were expected to pay for all the food and take it to go! They are the most unprofessional and rude pub I have ever been to. There are plenty of bars in Evanston that welcomed our group (and the plethora of money that came with us), and they will welcome yours too...don't waste your time on this place, food is average at best, the drinks take a long time to get, and the manager of this place is unbelieveably unprofessional and rude...it is not worth the long wait time nor the money..go next door to Prairie Moon where they have great food and fast service.

Escape from the rich, fratty vibe of bars closer to campus at Nevin's, where you can get a great beer and enjoy conversation among a slightly older customer base. The fries are good, too.

12/12/08 my friend and I were seated for lunch at Nevins and she ordered Albacore Tuna on a bed of lettuce with 9 points. That's what was on the menu, what she received was tuna with noodles (tuna casserole) with fruit around it, there were no 9 points and very llittle lettuce. She sent it back. The jerk of an owner came over and argued with her about there being no noodles in the dish and that the 9 points were mixed in and whether she ate it or not she would certainly have to pay for it. He said he would only take it back if something was wrong with it. Well there was something wrong with it. It WAS NOT WHAT WAS LISTED ON THE MENU. SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE DISH! I don't know who died and left him owner but we will never go back to be left paying for an ill prepared dish that did not resemble anything on the menu. BEWARE OF THE OWNER...HES really an A.
