THE BEST!!!. This place is the best! The price is right and the food is definately right! The chicken is juicy and flavorful and so are the burgers. The fries are the best in the world with a greek lemon mixture on top. The gyros is not greasy and is yummy! The feta is excellent as well. Sometimes I get the white rice and mix in the feta. EXCELLENT!! This is a definate don't miss place. Bring the family or go as a couple. The serve ice cold beer and wine. The dessert is excellent as well. I can go on for days on how wonderful the food is. The ambience isn't much but who cares with food like that!
My favorite greek restaurant/burger joint!. This place has the best burger, greek fries, and souvlaki (spelling?). And the prices are great. The service is very friendly and efficient.
My Favorite Burgers. The hamburgers at Cross-Rhodes are the best. They are not huge or terribly fancy, just really good basic fresh ground, hand-formed, charbroiled burgers. I like my burgers rare, and this is one of only a few places I trust enough to do them right. The quality of the beef at Cross-Rhodes is exceptional, and they have the art of burger making down to a science. The rare ones come charred on the outside and deep red on the inside, cooked just enough so they aren't dripping blood. Perfect. I like mine with feta cheese and a glass of Retsina (Greek wine). Even the tomato, onion and dill pickle are good. The only complaint I have is that the mustard is yellow and boring. And don't pass on the greek fries, they are big, crisp wedges drizzled with a lemon-oregano dressing. mmmmm.
Casual Evanston diner serves great Greek favorites to a devoted following..
In Short
Low-key and cheery, this white-walled diner is a favorite among locals craving classic Greek fare. Recommended starters include flaky spanakopita and lemony egg soup; the Villagers salad with feta, cukes and olives is a meal in itself. Super-crisp fries drenched in a nearly drinkable lemon-herb dressing are the must-have accompaniment to everything on the menu. Meat dishes include pork souvlaki served with refreshing tzatziki, and a crispy-skinned Greek chicken that rivals anything dished up in Greektown.
Gyr-yee, Gyr-yee, Gyre-yee!!!. The "Gyros"....whether as a sandwich or as a platter....is the best anywhere !!! Wonderful and comfortable family atmosphere. Parking may be a problem...but is well worth the trouble.
