In Short – A self-proclaimed "sumptuous love nest," this place is comfy and cozy, with a found-art feel. Odd artwork adorns the walls, tinfoil balls dot the ceiling, and lighting makes everything seem strangely space-age. Morning selections run from delightful cinnamon-raisin French toast with syrups like cider or Vermont maple, to eggs Benedict on toasted corn bread. The generous lunch and dinner menu features eclectic selections like Caribbean pumpkin soup, tandoori-grilled salmon and pizza with toppings like shiitake mushrooms.
a very poor hamburger
by evanstonres
One day I was just craving a burger and decided to give the lucky platter a try. I ordered a takeout burger and sweet potato fries, and walked to go pick them up. Service was good, and the food was ready promptly and was still hot when I made it home. This is where the good stuff ends....
The fries were burnt, and pretty far from tasty. The hamburger was, I consider, very close to awful. It was packed with onions and seasonings, and lord knows what else to make it taste like a bad meatloaf. The cheddar on it was good, but for some reason bacon bits were used instead of strips. Along with most people, I've had my fair share of burgers, and this was by far the worst. I would have rather driven to the store and bought ground beef and a kaiser roll and made my own. I see that others have put great reviews for their breakfast and ambiance, and this may be true, but in my experience, two thumbs down.
fabulous breakfast
by mhgvw
This is my standard spot for brunch when I have company. The restaurant makes great eggs benedict, and also has other breakfast options that scored high with my guests. The atmosphere is casual and funky, the waitstaff is friendly and the food is always good. They make yummy cornbread that now has to be requested rather than it being served as a 'snack'. I've had their salads, some egg dishes, blintzes, the yummy strawberry rhubarb pie, some of their sandwiches and one time had a good dinner there too.
Specialties to try: Hibiscus Iced Tea during summer, the Tamarind Lemonade, their pies, the cornbread, the flaky.
Public transportation is easy-there is a bus stop by main street, and both Metra and CTA (purple) have a station nearby. Street parking requires a bit of searching, there is a valet across the street in the evenings.
Good but not Great
by kenlaird
I just went here 2 wks ago, the restaurant decor is average but food is unique but good. I had the raisin french toast and hash browns, the toast was encrusted with cereal, made it crispy and unique, had french toast almost everywhere but this was very new, Hash brown also unique and quite good. Service was very poor, was not busy but took a long time to take my order and get my coffee. I would recommend overall, but not the best.
- Pros: food, originality
- Cons: service, parking
