Editorial Review for Pony Shop – by Colin Murphy

The Scene
Located just a few blocks into Evanston but noticeably less cramped than many city stores, this long skinny shop is lined with mountain bikes and hybrids on one wall and road bikes on the other, with racks of clothing and accessories down the center. The service department is at the back of the store, accessible only by a side entrance.

The Gear
The store concentrates on just four bike brands: Giant, Santa Cruz, Cannondale, and Litespeed. The selection ranges from city-sensible hybrids and comfort models to fully-suspended mountain bikes and a good spectrum of road bikes. While the variety here isn't overwhelming, they do a commendable job of having something for most every application and price point, from a couple hundred bucks for the occasional rider, to thousands for the racer or serious tourist. The selection of racks, luggage, and accessories is impressive, but clothing and tools are a bit
thinner.
