“great food, service, atmosphere”
“The baked oysters, crab cakes, crawfish etouffee, blackened scallops and Dixie Doorstop Porkchop are all fantastic, too.”
“Great service with a unique style, all the way down to the wine bottles being used as serving pitchers.”
“The food was not very good and it was a bit over priced.”
“Excellent cocktails, delicious appetizers, and a huge selection of microbrews make this one of the best "date spots" on the south side.”
“If you are looking for great Louisiana style food borth of the Mason Dixon line, this is your place.”
“The Maple Tree Inn is located in a quaint area on the South Side of Chicago in Blue Island in a little nook that overlooks the river - yes, the Metra train goes by occasionally but it is hardly noticeable - fantastic ambiance, especially in the summer out”
“O.K., ambience, but average, pricey food”
Great place great food!!!. I went with 2 friends, one of which had been there before. I didnt know what to expect, but as soon as I walked in the door, I knew I was going to love it! It was like stepping into a cozy restaurant in New Orleans, just charming and welcoming! I got a little worried when I was looking at the menu, but I stepped out of my comfort zone and ordered the jambalaya and it was outstanding! Its and interesting place and will of course be going back!!
overpriced--don't waste your time!. Food is not very good and overpriced. Overcrowded and smoky. Restaurant was better when it was located in the Beverly area in Chicago.
Dont Bother.
So I was in town, thought I'd stop in..... over rated!!!! The food: box rice mix....with more salt and hot pepper.... not good, seafod: over cooked and very fishy tasting.
Good beers on tap, but porr service.... and the owner: arrogant slob......what a waste of time and money.
Thanks. I was in town on the south side for only one day and thanks to previous reviewer I headed to MTI for a late dinner. I did get the 2x2x2 appetizer and the 1/2 pound shrimp dinner was well worth the price. This place is very out of the way and finding out of towners here will rarely happen. Good Cajun food with a great microbrew selection. Great service with a unique style, all the way down to the wine bottles being used as serving pitchers.
Casual South Side spot draws locals with Creole charm and Louisiana-style cuisine..
In Short
Housed in a 19th-century brick building, this comfortable room smacks of Creole charm. A long, polished oak bar that gleams with brass tap towers and three arched mirrors dominates the interior. In one corner hangs a stuffed alligator clutching a lavender parasol; antique fans span the length of the ceiling. The extensive Cajun menu offers generous portions of crab cakes and gumbo, plus dishes like garlicky frog legs gratinee and thick alligator soup.
New Orleans in Chicago. One of the best restaurants on the south side. Excellent cocktails, delicious appetizers, and a huge selection of microbrews make this one of the best "date spots" on the south side. I don't think it's possible to leave without eating the Oysters 2x2x2 or having a cup of gumbo. In 10 years, I've never been disappointed with MTI.
