What Happened To The Great "Outback Steakhouse in Calumet Ci.
What in the world happened to the Great Outback Steakhouse in Calumet City? It used to be an excellent place to eat. My friend and I wanted to enjoy a real good steak and at our age (76) we don't get a chance to do that very often so off to Outback we went on last Saturday. We both ordered the most expensive steak - the 22oz Porterhouse - cooked medium. The steaks were not good at all! They were tough, dry and of very poor quality.
We would have been happy to pay more for better quality. Please let the new management know that when old folks splurge they expect high quality for their money, not the Applebee quality. We were extremely dissappointed.
Not as good as a year ago. One of my guests ordered the Special," Sirloin, Baked Potato and Shrimp." While Shrimp was shown on the Menus; the order was received with only the steak and a baked potato. There was a party of two, which had been served and a party of 4 in the area where we were placed. The werver was in the process of taking the order for the of 4. We waited almost 20 minutes before our order was taken, another 15-20 minutes before the drinks, soup and salad were served. The server only inquired once, briefly if everything was okay after which we asked for doggie bags to take our food out. The sirloin was ordered mediium well, it came rare. the Filet and Shrimp was ordered rare. The baby back ribs were excellent and tender; but the potato was luke warm. The server stated the sirloin was as rare as they could ge it. It was medium well. We have been customers at this site for over 8 years and had expected the same fine quality of service we previously experienced. This was not the case the afternoon of 8/30/09. The server subsequently apologized with the statement she was experiencing difficulty. This was a personal issue and should not have interefered with her quality of service. However, the apology for slow service was appreciated.
Australian tchotchkes and brews give this quintessentially American restaurant a distinctive Down Under flavor..
In Short
Boomerangs, Aussie flags, kangaroo portraits and faux aboriginal art honor the homeland's wilderness, but Outback delivers a polished version of rusticity with varnished blond-wood booths with matching wainscoting and casually uniformed waitstaff. Besides more than a half-dozen cuts of steak, diners can pick from large-portioned entrees like ribs, chops and shrimp or chicken "on the barbie." The Bloomin' Onion, a large onion dipped in batter and deep-fried, is an appetizer with a following.
Food is Great. The food is great. The place is nice. Crowed majority of the time. They have the best salads and also the bread is good. Good steaks and service. they don't open early say around 4pm on fridays and 3pm or Saturdays and Sundays. it is knd of pricey but it is worth it. They have a carry out section where you can get food to go.
