Tips for Tin Fish

Disappointing. Let me start by including the fact that i've been eating at Tin Fish for about 3 years, and about 20 times in the past 8 months alone, taking a look back at my varied experiences there , I am questioning why I return over and over with friends, family, coworkers. Every time I bring a new person there they are disappointed that it didnt live up to my hype which in turn adds to my disappointment, and when I was in there for dinner with my father the other day (who has been going there longer than I have) he had pointed out the ever changing but never evolving service or wait staff attitude, Our server was kris, and she had waited on us many many times before, but the bus staff has a better attidude and flow about them , but that was only a small part of the ever declining atmosphere and experience. We started out with some crab cakes and a salad which were both good but both were cold also, still at this point not that bad, I was famished and ready to get to some real food. My father ordered fish (came overcooked outside undercooked inside) and didn't even eat half of it, he would not complain until we left, i had a dry aged steak medium that came dry alright, I ate a little more than half anyway, who want to waste that kind of money? I will have to go in there for a drink one of the days and have a talk with the owner (who used to know us by name) until then I might not ever return because there are so many other fulfilling options in the area.....

Disappointed Dave "The Crave", Out.

Great service even better food!. Was visiting my folks ont in the south suburbs for my dads birthday and took them to Tin Fish. This is as good a restaurant as any I've been to in the city. Cape scallops were to die for and the skate wing with roasted tomatoes and rice crust melted in my mouth. My dad loved the clam chowder and they even had fresh alaskan king crab legs...WOW! Very fair prices in the city it would have been way more. Janice took great care of us she was very professional only downer was I wish they had esspresso. I may be seeing alo more of my parents now that I know about this place!

Service issues. The food was good. We ate dinner at the bar and the bartender was too pushy, too much of a "salesperson". We left feeling robbed. It ruined our dining experience. We haven't been back since. It's too bad because we enjoyed the food.

Good stuff.... I dine at Tin Fish frequently, and have (almost) always have good luck. The fish is super fresh and I don't mind paying a little more for quality. Service is solid and believe it or not, the busboys are noticably sharp. The wine list is full of bargains if you know what to look for or ask for help. I'm not sure what to make of the other bad reviews here. I guess we're looking for different things.

Mediocre. As stated before, this restaurant is well placed in a stripmall outside of downtown... because if it were in town, they would be out of business. Slightly high prices for very average (but well dressed) food, slow service, with an excellent atmosphere.

Fresh!. Dined here Oct. 2004. Had heard a lot about it and was quite happy with it. The service was outstanding and the menu was intriguing with the mix and match concept. Both my husband and I had the Sea Bass each prepared differently. Both excellent! The spicy shrimp and fresh oysters were very good. Liked that you could choose between east coast or west coast oysters. Server was knowledgeable and new exactly where each was coming from. Consider the specials...outstanding!

Not worth it. The prices were way too high for what you received. My husband ordered a fresh fish of the day, and that was ALL that came on his plate. Not even a garnish. It was so salty we had to send it back for a different piece of fish and the waiter actually had the audacity to say he tried the fish and it was too salty -- like we had lied or something. I would never come here again.

South-suburban gem offers fresh seafood in an unlikely strip mall setting.. In Short
The rectangular dining room has a mix of cozy booths and wooden tables, with several mounted fish as decor. "Flown in fresh daily" is the mantra here, and a half-dozen fish entrees let you mix-and-match with preparation styles, sides and sauces. Start with creamy clam chowder or tuna tartar; entrees include moist, meaty sturgeon, salmon, whitefish, and yellowfish, which comes coated in a chili oil-spiked mayo with lime juice and topped with diced avocado.

There's A Reason It's In Tinley Park. ...because this restaurant would not survive in the city. After reading several stellar reviews, we made reservations on a recent Saturday night. We showed up about 20 minutes early and informed the hostess team we wanted to have a drink in the bar and would be ready to eat when our table was ready. 5 minutes before our reservation, we again informed the team of our presence. 45 minutes later we were finally seated with no excuse other than "we're really busy." It wasn't worth the wait. Mediocre food. Horrible service. People (and restaurants) are defined by how they respond to adversity and in this case, Tin Fish didn't even try. If you live in Tinley Park , your options are limited to Applebee's and Tin Fish... But if you want decent seafood (AND service) in the suburbs you're better off heading north to Davis St Fishmarket.
