The Scene – Half an hour from Chicago, this family-owned winery has been producing world-class wines since 1979. Founder Fred Koehler still manages the place, with some help from his son and daughter. When to Go:
Free tours are available on weekends at 2pm and 4pm; call ahead to reserve a spot. After the tour, you can sip seven different Lynfred wines for $7.
The Extras:
For an additional $20, Lynfred's chefs will dip your bottle in six layers of dark, milk and white chocolate, which you can peel off and eat while you sip.
Know Before You Go:
The winery also operates as a bed and breakfast with four deluxe suites, each with a different wine-country theme: French, German, Italian and American. Daily rates are Mon-Thu $400 and Fri-Sat $475.
