The Scene
Unlike so many pretentious, museum-like antiques stores in the area, Wow and Zen feels welcoming and comfortably browse-able. But do watch where you swing your purse, as antiques line the walls and the center of the narrow shop, many stacked to the ceiling and dangling from it.
The Goods
With a focus on 18th- and 19th-century furnishings and accessories from rural China and Tibet, items have personality and history. Sturdy handmade baskets--now good for anything from laundry to firewood--were used for carrying rice, flowers, wine or babies. Small wooden benches, often bought these days as children's step-stools, were once used extensively in rice fields. You'll also find dressers, grain scoops, Tibetan painted chests, Chinese marionettes and Asian school desks. Only painted umbrellas serving as lamp shades are fakes.

Good find with charm and character. Uncommon antiques for common household use. Tables, stands, containers, chairs, clocks, ornaments, etc. Very attractive and reasonably priced.

Wow and Zen is a great neighborhood place that is warm and cozy and filled to the brim with wonderful merchandise. The owner is caring and knowledgeable. You can find all sorts of treasures here that you won't see anywhere else. It is worth a trip if you do not live nearby. Enjoy!
