POW Rocks!. I love this place!!! I have never had a class here that I did not like...Krav Maga, Boxing, Muay Thai, and BJJ. This place has it all and makes it all available to all members without exclusions. With their open enrollment policy you can study any of the offered disciplines with your memebership.

All of the instructors are trained professionals and skilled fighters in their own right. It is a great opportunity to learn from people who are passionate about what they do and for whom it is not just a job.

All of the instructors are invested in building and sharpening your skill sets and provide on the spot feedback and attention to you.

Further, the student population is as diverse as the classes that POW offers. Men, women, college students, and established career professionals train side by side in classes that are both challenging and fun.

I look forward to the days that I train here and never have that feeling of dread often associated with going to the Gym.

Since joining two years ago I have learned practicle fighting styles and self defense, started living a much healthier active lifestyle, and met a lot of really cool people.

Thank you POW!

Great Martial Arts Classes. This is a great martial arts school because the owner is very hands-on and the instructors are very knowledgeable. There are several different styles offered for any level, including beginning. If you really want to get in shape the right way and learn good technique, this is the place. They work you hard and you will see results!

best workout in chicago. This is by far the best workout that I have found in Chicago. It is challenging for all levels of fitness. There are a wide variety of classes and boredom is never an option. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. My favorite classes are usually the ones that are taught by Katalin, the owner. She's one of those rare finds in the fitness world who, as an instructor, inspires her students to do better. This gym is truly a hidden gym...though I have to admit, it is pretty easy to get there by either public transit or car. The only thing that can be difficult is limiting yourself to the number of classes you will take in any one given evening. I'm not sure why it is, but in any 45 min class, you may feel tired at one point but by the end, your brain will chime in and say what a great time you had and you find yourself sticking around for the next class.

No Other Place Like It. I love training at POW. It is so different that any other type of center. It is more of a school than a health club, but I dropped my health club membership when I started a couple years ago, because the classes are so intense that there was no point of going to the gym. At first I didn't think I was a class person - but I cant not imagine training any other way now. The classes are always different. Kat the owner changes things up all the time and has the other instructors change their routines too - so it isnt boring ever. Learning to punch and kick has given me so much confidence and body changed 3 months later. I take all the classes, except jiujitsu, even though it is so popular, I just prefer learning the punching and kick sports. Kat focuses on so much technique without it being slow. Said is newer to the staff over the last year and he is crazy fun as well.

Knowledgeable Staff; Get In Shape & Learn A Skill. I've been a student at POW for almost 5 years now and I highly recommend it. It's like having a personal trainer while still getting to work out with other people. The school offers a wide variety of classes (Krav Maga, Muay Thai, Boxing, Kickboxing and Brazilian Jujitsu ) at a wide variety of times, which is helpful for someone with a busy schedule like me. It's not a traditional martial arts school with belt degrees, so you have a lot of flexibility to study what you what, and how often you want. Some students exclusively focus on one thing like boxing or BJJ, while others take the whole spectrum of classes.

The students range in experience from complete beginners to amateur fighters. Basically there's something for everyone. If you are a complete beginner I'd recommend starting with Katalin's (the owner) classes. She is extremely knowledgeable and patient and does a great job of breaking down the technique into easy-to-understand steps. She also offers great advice on treating and preventing injuries as well as nutritional information. Just an all around great person.

If you're a more experienced fighter, or just like to be pushed hard, I'd recommend classes with some of the other teachers like Lyndon, Said, Mark Miller, or Dino Costeas. Check out the website to see the impressive credentials of all the instructors. Whatever class you chose I guarantee you will be spent and sweaty by time it's finished.
