What People Are Saying About Soundings at Shedd Aquarium

In Short – Tucked away in a corner--and just a few steps from the bustling food court downstairs--Soundings is a welcome break from aquarium crowds; seating offers views of Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline. The menu focuses on seafood, but all selections are organically raised, so they don't deplete the ocean's riches. The crab cake entree is a favorite, with a burger-sized cake made from chunks of meat. Other available dishes include salads, pastas, beef and chicken.

Aside from the beautiful view and atmosphere, Soundings should work on making their food more flavorful. I ordered a grilled tandoori tofu wrap and was extremely disappointed. I come from an East Indian background and "tandoori" means spices and mouthwatering flavor to grilled meats and tofu in Indian cuisine. I was excited to see the that there was something tandoori in the dish. However, to my surprise, it was horribly bland and I couldn't take more than one bite. I could only taste the yogurt. I looked around to see other people who ordered the same thing and saw their faces cringe when they had the bite as well.
I also taste tested my friends orders and other than the flavor of the meat, there was nothing. I wanted to go back to the food court and order a wrap that I knew would taste better than the grilled tofu. I left my whole plate, and left unhappy. restaurant is beautiful but we're really there for the food, put some heart into it.

My wife and I visited Soundings as a part of our whirlwind tour of the Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum and Adler Planetarium. Even though we were very busy that day, Soundings provided a great respite from the screaming children and large crowds that we encountered that day. My biggest complaint was that there was only one seafood entree on the main menu, but it was a nice tilapia with an adventurous sauce. My wife and I enjoyed the view and the quiet ambiance. Little touches like the goldfish crackers were appreciated and the service was polite and attentive. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is tired of the typical museum food.
- Pros: Great View, Good food, Good Service
- Cons: Lack of seafood entrees
