A "great place" --- if you have low expectations. Bartenders were inattentive. Not like it was a busy night. Place seemed cool enough till I ordered a whiskey sour. Call me a purist if you want, but unless your mixed drink has soda in it it shouldn't be made w/ the soda-gun. No whiskey to speak of, all sour. Which is fine as far as I'm concerned. But when you obviously haven't touched your drink in a half-hour and have pushed it most of the way back to the bar lip, you would expect a bartender to at least ask how things are. Worse than that when I press the issue that the drink tastes foul, he acts offended and wont remove the horrible drink from the tab.

i wont be returning anytime soon...

Good Times. Love the place. Have a great time every time. The bartender Craig is a hottie (OUCH). The staff is cool, the food is great, and the place is clean. I hate a dirty bar. Never had a bad time their, only the next morning after the great martinis(Maybe a few to many, but worth $5).

great place. I would definitely recommend this place. My overall impression is very positive with great service, quality bar food in big Chicago-size portions (dieters, sorry!) and a great selection of beers. The TV's are everywhere and it has a great outside sidewalk table seating. We waited a bit to be seated outside, but once we got out there, we didn't give up our table... great people watching.

In Love with Avenue. I have to say that I'm usually compelled to write reviews whenever I'm impressed with a bar. I discovered Avenue Tavern when my matey moved to that neighborhood. My mate and I broke up, but I am still going to the Avenue!!! Great munchie food and very cool people working there!!!

Something for everyone. Like the editor's review says, this place offers something for everyone. For me, it's been the scene of many dates which went nowhere. But that's not this bar's fault. This bar has a great location (close to me). I agree with that the service is friendly and prompt. I've had the food and it's also good.

Spiffy but not snooty Lakeview bar as diverse as its surroundings.. The Scene
Blond-stone walls, a dozen 32-inch TVs and plenty of windows (including a retractable garage-door of paned glass) brighten the two-room space, even late. Staffers efficiently wind their way through high tables and booths packed with casual 20- and 30-somethings. Complimentary condoms unassumingly share bar-tops with napkins and ashtrays, quiet acknowledgement of a pick-up factor among hetero newcomers and a holdover-crowd from the popular gay bar that formerly occupied the space.

The Draw
Lack of attitude is the bar's best attraction. With the face of a lounge, the heart of a neighborhood hang and the casual spirit of a sports bar, Avenue Tavern can be anybody's local. Two bars serve everything from a half-dozen draft beers to specialty martinis, and a nearly tireless kitchen (usually cooking until midnight) provides a full food menu, from soups and salads to burgers and grinders--even cheesecake.

CLO. Ive been to AveTav several times with friends. For drinks after work, a casual dinner or a great Fri/Sat night out, AveTav is one of our favorites for casual socializing! The nice and plentiful staff keeps waits for food and beverage very short. Its a great neighborhood bar with a cool mix of patrons.
