The Scene
A fanciful Jack and the Beanstalk-sized vine with glass petals twines along a moonscape ceiling past a long bar and open kitchen, leading to a dining area divided in two by a curtain of translucent candy-colored glass squares. The high arched windows offer sparkling treetop views of Michigan Avenue, adding drama to the intimate space glammed up by high-backed chairs, chandeliers and white table linens.
The Food
Diverse offerings such as a raw bar, charcuterie and cheese plates, flatbreads and a good old-fashioned Chicago strip steak characterize this upscale American brasserie. An attentive and friendly waitstaff happily educates diners on the origin of the flavors they're experiencing, like the volcanic chili powder and smoked paprika oil heating up the baby octopus appetizer, or the microgreens--basically maturing sprouts--lacing a sausage and asiago cheese flatbread that spills over the plate. Even a standard like roasted flounder has a secret: piquant Piquillo peppers.

I took my girlfrien there for our anniversary. We got a window seat that had a beutiful view of maichigan avenue. I have always had bad experiences with hotel food, but this time was differnet. We shared three small tastes. Foie gras, pork belly and house chips. All three were delicious and cheap to. The flavor combinations on both the foie and pork were spot on. We then had a flatbread, with shrimp and sweet corn. It was also good. A little salty though. The crust was obviously made in house and it was perfect. We both had steaks. Mine was very good, but hers was very over cooked. We didnt say anything, beacuase being chefs, I know how much I hate recooking steaks. We were given free chocolate covered strawberries for our anniversary. Our server was very courdious. I would eat there again, but I would not order a steak.

Had the opportunity to eat at this bar when we were in the area two years ago. They had the best steak burger and fries. I could not even finish it. The beer was good and cold and the service was great. I had a wonderful experience and would visit again.

After reading the reviews, my husband and I made a reservation at the 676 Restaurant & Bar for a special dinner during our vacation to Chicago. We were incredibly disappointed! We were crammed into a corner by the window with the next table just inches away from us. The service was awful - every time the waitress came to our table, which wasn't often, she had mixed up our order. To top it all off, the food was mediocre at best. Don't waste your time and money.
