Thrift store paintings, Christmas lights and Mediterranean-inspired light fixtures make up the vintage decor, at this throwback restaurant, where the menu reads, "May we suggest a cocktail before and after dinner." The nostalgic menu brims with classic American dishes, from super-crispy pan-fried chicken and bone-in strip steak to shrimp de Jonghe in sherry-garlic sauce. Another retro touch: All dinners include two rounds of relishes, soup or tomato juice, salad, garlic bread, potato, coffee and dessert.

We recently had friends in from out of town and took them to the best place -Petey's. We are long time loyal customers. We ordered steaks, pan fried chicken, and pork chops. All cooked to perfection. The service was great. The drinks were awesome- not watered down as you get at other restaurants. We went to the bar after our meal-what a great time we had as always. Over the years, Petey's has not let us down. Thanks Petey!

Petey's reminds me (and will remind you) of having a stiff drink at the home of someone from a bygone era (your great-grandmother, perhaps?). I recall shag carpet, wood paneling, and a very homey atmosphere (lots of old people) at this place. As you step through the doorway you get the immediate sense that you really are entering the livingroom of Petey's bungalow. It's like he's been hosting a party in his home for half a century and no one has ever left. Everyone is quite friendly (maybe the booze) and the food is no-nonsense meatloaf, pot roast, and other things that you might have expected on the menu at grandma's place. They don't hold back on the booze either, so make sure you've got a designated driver. Highly recommend. A must eat.

I have been a loyal Petey's patron for years, but lately the cuts of steak have declined and no matter how I've ordered them, they were a let down, not to mention, far too much gristle. I've since discovered Louie's on 103rd and Cicero. Sorry Petey.
