The land of the orange

by ColleenC at Citysearch

I just started going to Rocco & Rocco this past summer because the salon I go to is in the city and was inconvenient to get to. My boyfriend and his dad as well as a few of my mom's friends all go to Rocco & Rocco and recommended it and the location is ten minutes from my house so I figured I would try it out.

I called the salon one afternoon and spoke to a very rude woman who seemed extremely displeased that she had to talk to me. I asked her recommendation for a trendy stylist and she led me to Dana D. I ended up making an appointment for later that day and I was greeted by a less than friendly staff. I couldn't help but notice how chaotic the salon seemed, and how orange all of the employees looked. The girl who washed my hair didn't say one word to me besides introducing herself. Once I was shampooed, I sat waiting in Dana's chair. When she finally showed up she was not at all friendly and didn't say more than a few sentences the entire time, I got the cut I wanted, however the customer service was completely lacking.

This seems to be a common thread among my visits to Rocco & Rocco. I have gone back maybe 2 or 3 more times because it is convenient and hey I'll take a pretty good hair cut for $35. The scenario has been the same on every occasion: rude employees that act burdened that they have to check me in and offer me water, shampoo girls that make it very apparent how much they dislike their job, and unfortunately, a hair stylist who can't seem to get rid of me fast enough.

If you can look beyond all the attitude from multiple people, lots of waiting around for people to show up, inappropriate work attire, and an extremely loud salon, you can get a pretty decent hair cut for a good price.

  • Pros: Location, Price
  • Cons: Rude Employees, Very Loud, Impersonal Interaction

Best Salon Hands Down

by amymay at Citysearch

I know you hear comments about salons, this person says this, that says that. But please take it from me. I've worked at top salons Zanos, Tricocci, and have tried others for my hair but nothing compares to Rocco and Rocco. Ron, the owner has been doing my mom's hair for over 20years, and gave me my first cut at 5yrs old, Im 31, hes done my proms, and wedding and is just an all around down to earth guy who knows how to take care of his staff and meet the needs of his clients. Over the years I've gone back and forth getting my hair cut by people but always go back to Ron, because deep down, even though its a bit of a drive for me, he does the absolute greatest job. He is trendy, fun, outgoing, and cuts hair like I've never see, he has visions and will tell you the honest truth if you can or can't do something with your hair. Please take it from me, been around, visit Rocco and Rocco in downtown Downers Grove. You won't be disappointed.

  • Pros: trendy, upbeat, chicago feel salon in small town, no snobs, very social and great service, prices are awesome
  • Cons: Nothing

Fabulous salon

by fmagriz at Citysearch

I went to this salon because I always pass by there and I see them doing really nice hair. I wanted to do a drastic change so I took my chances I went there. The receptionist recommended a hairstylist who specializes in short haircuts. I took her a picture of what I wanted and she did it exactly like the picture. Every time I take a picture of a haircut it never looks the same. Not this one, she did it exactly. I highly recommend this salon, very clean and professional. My hairstylist from now on is Dana W. at Rocco and Rocco.

  • Pros: Talented people working there, clean and professional.
  • Cons: No cons yet.
