In Short – An alternative to glossy chain establishments, this mainstay serves its pizza in a refreshingly no-frills setting: straight-backed wooden booths, hanging stained-glass lighting and beer-sign decor. Little leaguers and their folks champion the beef-minestrone soup and ultra-thin, cracker-crust pizza. The menu of Italian favorites--from veal parmigiana to manicotti with marinara sauce--also features surprises like olive-cheese balls and crostini with liver spread.

Best pizza in town. The pasta is also tops. This is the place to go for a sit down dinner with the family, or a meal on the run. The people who work there are very friendly?I highly recommend for people who like pizza and Italian food.

Best Thin Crust Pizza

by petervenkman at Citysearch

Ever since Santucci's (near Midway airport) closed, this has been the best place for thin crust pizza around. A perfect cracker crust and wonderful homemade sausage is what makes Alex and Aldo's so great (if only they made their pizzas rectangular like Santucci's!). Now that a new owner has taken over, the pizza is not quite as great (the sauce is a little too heavy these days), but it is still fantastic. However, if you go on a Friday or Saturday night, Aldo may be in the kitchen making the pizza like it was when he and Alex ran the place. Go before he's gone, you won't regret it. Chicago (and the suburbs) ain't just deep dish.

  • Pros: Inexpensice, relaxed, perfect pizza
  • Cons: Cons?

Storefront Locale Can't Make Up For Bad Food

by olstile at Citysearch

I know Alex and Aldo's has a loyal following, but I never could learn to like their food. Their sauces tend to be brown and salty, like gravy as opposed to red sauce. I have tried their pizza's a few times and found it dry and tasteless. The people are nice and they live near my residence so I've tried to enjoy their food, but I guess it's not for me.

  • Pros: Nice Local Place, Small and Cozy Atm.
  • Cons: Dry Pizza
