Editorial Review for Halligan Bar – by Jennifer Olvera
The Scene
Smallish but sufficient, this conical neighborhood bar has a distinctly South Side feel, thanks to Sox paraphernalia (a rarity in these northern parts) and loads of firefighter imagery covering its walls. A great spot for those more mature than the clientele of other nearby pubs, the Irish-infused Halligan boasts windows that open for a beer garden feel and provide great people-watching.
The Draw
Friendly, off-duty firefighters and lively area residents. Great daily drink specials--even on weekends--mean big savings on drafts and hardcore tipples, and a full roster of games on big screens make everyone (Marquette fans especially) feel at home. Plenty of Irish whiskies appease the Jameson crowd, while daters and well-behaved revelers tip back mainstream suds. Pop and alternative standards (think everything from Kenny Rogers to the Pogues) can unify the place, particularly on a packed Friday night.

Insider Tips
Hassle-Free ParkingIf you can't find a parking space on the street--a common problem in this popular area--try the garage at Children's Memorial Hospital; after 5pm, validated parking will set you back just $3.
