“Wine list is not too pricey for the average nice Chicago restaurant.”
I love this place!. I've been to this returant at least 6 or seven times and although my first first expierence was mediocre(due to a very rude waiter, but I haven't seen him since) every expierence from there on has been terrific!! I took someone for their birthday and the staff knew from my reservations and they went all out. Catch 35 caught me with their wonderful staff, plentiful dishes and I can't say enough about the blackend red snapper or the crab cakes!
A Dinner With Friends Meets Expectations. Perfectly textured fish and a subdued, humming atmosphere make Catch 35 a dining experience you can depend on. You better try their Chilean Sea Bass before it becomes extinct - their fresh preparation makes it light and buttery smooth. I also enjoy their pasta dishes. However, service sometimes slips, and I've witnessed occassionally rude and tepid service quality. Desserts are a good deal-the chocolate mousse is one of the best I've ever had. Catch 35 is consistent in their preparation, execution, and overall experience - a good bet for taking guests or family.
User review by robertdl. I eat at Catch 35 frequently for lunch and have never been disappointed. They always have a wide variety of fresh fish and seafood that they expertly prepare and present. The head chef is from Thailand and so many of the menu items have a creative oriental flair. If you want to take someone or a group out to eat at a place that you can depend upon impressing your guests, Catch 35 will not dissappoint.
They can do better - food 9 - service 2. If the service had been half as good as the food, this restaurant would have been a winner!
Wonderful Dining Experience!. Great for special ocassions, excellent ambience. Great bar; raw bar; selection of fresh fish. The freshest fish in Chicagoland!
Catch 35 Misses Hundreds. Our visit in January '05 before going to the theater was shocking, given their reputation. Food was flavorful, but the lobster and shrimp with the ravioli were both tough. When the waiter AND the hotess asked how things were, I replied "OK" in a disappointing tone. Neither cared enough to ask why I wouldn't rate it better. I asked if the owners were local, and the hostess was unsure. When I did express my specific concerns, the coat check assistant said, "Well, you can't please everybody." Sounds like serious morale problems here. I have vowed to tell the hundreds of people I know who go to Chicago for trade shows not to expect a pleasing experience at Catch 35.
Great Place. What a restaurant! The service is exceptional and food was even better. A great place for business, dates and for the love of food and wine. Highly recommend and dont miss it if you are in Chicago.
Exciting, Asian-influenced seafood for the expense-account set..
The Scene
Suits and business-casual types fill the camel-brown leather booths at Catch 35, where sky-high ceilings and a decor straight out of the '80s hearken back to the "greed is good" days of conspicuous consumption. It's comfortable for the corporate crowd, but not necessarily the kind of place you'd go for a romantic meal.
The Food
Catch 35's innovative seafood menu spices things up with a distinctly Asian flavor. Superb seared scallops are kissed with Szechwan glaze and hidden under a pile of colorful Asian veggies; Panang curry shrimp is served with a mound of fragrant rice, the grilled shrimp wielding a delicate heat just strong enough to make your taste buds do a double take. The more conventional crab cake with corn and black bean relish is excellent, too. Lobster fans can indulge in succulent grilled Australian Greenback lobster tail.
a good catch. Dozens of fresh fish coming in daily, displayed as you are led to your table. The dishes- both appetizers & entrees- were prepared well with interesting flavors. The wait staff knowledgeable and right on in their recommendations. It is a place I have recommended to others and would definitely visit again.
worthy catch. The fish was as fresh as I have had in Chicago - the chilean sea bass with ginger and scallions was packed with flavor and butter smooth. Curries were also excellent (even for a Thai-food lover). I agree that it is better suited to a fun dinner with friends than a romantic night out. I recommend it enthusiastically.
