Editorial Review for Bella Bacino's – by J.P. Anderson
The Scene
Cozy and low-lit, this Club Quarters Hotel restaurant's handsome back room attracts businesspeople with warm earth tones and polished chandeliers; one wall is rakishly covered in wooden wine box panels. A few high tables perch in the front bar area, while a handful of outdoor tables offers sunny views of Wacker Drive and the river beyond.
The Food
The hearty, homestyle Italian menu offers plenty of variety, from overstuffed panini and fresh pastas to salads and main courses. Bruschetta brimming with ripe tomatoes and fragrant with garlic is a favorite starter, though most diners settle on pillowy-soft--and complimentary--foccacia bread drizzled with olive oil. As for the pizza, Bacino's signature Spinach Supreme lives up to its billing, the firm, flaky crust stuffed with mushrooms, herbs, and a ton of the green stuff.

Bella's is a great standby for pizza in the Loop. Unlike most Chicago restaurants, esp. pizza places, the menu contains many healthful options and gourmet toppings. The atmosphere, which looks fairly formal, belies it's reasonable prices. The owners should open up a more casual version which caters better to "on the go" patrons.

After reading the excellent reviews on this website, I had to try Bella Bacino's. We went there for lunch very recently. Quite possibly the worst customer service I have ever experienced. It was not our server, it seamed like every customer in the restaurant was very frustrated with the service. There was no excuse, since it wasn't even crowded, the place was just very poorly managed. No one cared. It took 45 minutes for the famous "stuffed crust spinach" pizza to arrive at our table, and the pizza quality was average at best. This was the only bad meal we had all week while visiting Chicago. Very, very, disappointing.
Pros: none
Cons: Awful experience
