Thankful for the Honey Tree

Making a decision about who cares for your child(ren) while you work is big. If you decide daycare is the option you want to pursue, I recommend The Honey Tree. My family transitioned to the facility from another one downtown in 2006 when I had my second child. I am extremely pleased with how it has worked out. My second child is now four and my fourth child starts there next week.
Although convenience is part of the equation, the people (both the staff and the other families who send their children there) have really made us feel welcome and at home. In fact, when we leave "school" for even a brief trip, my kids are upset with me--they want to go back right away to see their friends (which include their teachers).
Since we've been part of the Honey Tree community I haven't seen an abnormal amount of teacher turnover. A couple staff even left the facility and came back. Personally, I'm looking forward to returning to the baby room because two of the teachers stationed there are ones we've known since we started.
Best wishes as you find the best daycare fit for your family!
Probably a good option for older kids

I liked the way the school looked. I probably would've chosen this place if my child were older when I was looking, but for infant and toddler care it seemed very crowed and I was not happy with the ratios. A friend took me to see it while she was picking up her preschooler, the infant room was supposed to have a 4 to 1 ratio (which I already thought was high) and during my pop in visit, there were 10 babies with only 2 staff members. All the kids were in bouncies, swings or high chairs. This worried me. Additionally, I asked one of the girls if this was normal for the group size and staffing and she told me it was okay because they were older infants and almost ready for the 5 to 1 ration anyway.
Other than that, the older classes (although the ratios were high - but not out of compliance) looked fun and cheerful. My friend's child was 3 at the time and in a class of about 18 with two staff. She and the child were happy and the good location allowed my friend to visit her child during the day if she wanted....I thought that was neat!
I didn't meet the owner, but the woman in the office was pleasant.
- Pros: Location
- Cons: Large groups, High ratios
