What People Are Saying About Ada's Famous Deli

In Short – This bustling Loop deli does a mean midday business. Ravenous diners who arrive early settle in amidst the mint-green surroundings, while latecomers with grumbling stomachs shuffle toward a long line of waiting patrons. The crowd varies from casually clad tourists in search of affordable grub to chatty urbanites on long lunch breaks. Most come for Ada's mile-high, hot corned beef or pastrami sandwiches with potato pancakes, but you'll also find usual suspects like cheeseburgers, francheesies and Monte Cristo sandwiches. – –

Editor's Tips

Save Time:
Although service tends to be snappy, those in a real rush should head toward Ada's long deli counter, where take-out orders are accommodated. Better yet, fax your order and they'll have it waiting for you.

  1. But when I send people there, they never comment to me on their food or service, which I guess is because you can find a restaurant just like this one where you live, except for the awesome sandwiches.
  2. the worst soup served
  3. While we loved our waitress, when she delivered our order of a lox and onion scramble, we got nothing but fake lox and maybe 2 eggs for $10.
  4. really like their chicken salad sandwich, and theyre open later than most restaurants in this area.
  5. ordered a noodle soup and has the worst experience.
  6. Their matzo ball soup is really delicious, and I lov.
  7. Very flavorful food and attentive wait staff.

No wonder this place was empty

by CSMobileUser3

I had steak and eggs. Ordered steak medium rare. It was tough and charred on the edges, probably was frozen. Ordered my eggs over easy, those came out with hard yolks. Hash browns were way overcooked and the portion was tiny. Only good thing was the toast. Service was awful. 3 tables in the whole place. At least 3 waitstaff and 2 managers and noone could take care of the tables. It took me over 10 minutes of waiting after they dropped the check for him to come back and collect my credit card. Don't really know how they are paying the bills for such a big place with terrible food and horrible service. Tourists beware!

A really decent deli on Wabash

by chowfunner

Great Noshes are getting harder to come by than ever, but Ada's meets the challenge. Several of their offerings come very close to the best I've had in NYC. The cornbeef was very lean, surprisingly tender and had that elusive old-world flavor. I was pleasantly surprised by the richness of the chicken and cabbage soups, both were quite authentic and tasted homemade.

  • Pros: Great food

the worst soup served

by annamyint

I ordered a noodle soup and has the worst experience. It is a clear broth with noodles not so fresh and no taste. Cannot imagine how they can serve that kin of soup worse than the noodle packet made at home.

  • Pros: inexpensive
  • Cons: worst soup

Ada's is still pretty OK.

by paulfrancisj

I work as a bellman down the street from Adas, so I go there a lot. I really like their chicken salad sandwich, and theyre open later than most restaurants in this area. I send people there a lot because of their late hours and I suppose you can say their comfort foods that are pretty much available for the same price at every other restaurant. But when I send people there, they never comment to me on their food or service, which I guess is because you can find a restaurant just like this one where you live, except for the awesome sandwiches.

  • Pros: Chicken Salad!, Soup!, Late hours.
  • Cons: Average looks.

The WORST customer service

by bigjpearl

When we went into Ada's, we were hoping for our enjoyable Chicago dining experience to continue. While we loved our waitress, when she delivered our order of a lox and onion scramble, we got nothing but fake lox and maybe 2 eggs for $10. It was so disappointing that we asked for the manager. When we told him about our experience, he could not care less. He essentially told us to get lost. There are so many great restaurants in this town....don't waste your time or money on this place. They don't care about customer satisfaction.

  • Pros: our waitress
  • Cons: management, food, portions
