One of Chicago theater's jewels.. The History The former Blackstone Theatre (graced at one time or other by the likes of Henry Fonda, Katharine Hepburn, Dustin Hoffman and James Earl Jones) was purchased in 1988 by DePaul's theater school.
The Venue Host to showcase productions of classic and contemporary plays (performed by students) and children's theater by Chicago Playworks, the charming, turn-of-the-century proscenium house seats 1,325 split between mezzanine and balcony levels. A rare budget-priced theater in the high-rent Printer's Row vicinity, it's a worthwhile stop. No concessions are available within the theater.
