Overview – The Field Museum has made a name for itself with media splashes like the Tyrannosaurus rex (aka "Sue") exhibit as well as mainstays like the permanent Underground Adventure exhibit, where visitors can walk through a large-scale underground ecosystem for an up-close look at the world that exists below the Earth's surface. You can also see a life-sized Egyptian tomb, mummies and examples of the riches the ancient tombs once held. The Dino Store features the latest in "Sue"-inspired T-shirts and mugs. – – The Experience – Visitors can take a walk through a…

- Save Money:
- Chicago residents get a discount on admission fees (proof of residency required). The Field Museum offers about 52 discounted days per year. Check the official website for the current schedule.
- The Extras:
- On weekends at 1:30pm, and daily during July and August, kids can hear a story and work on an art project to take home (free with admission). Another kid favorite: Museum overnighters take place two or three times a year. Pre-registration is required for sleepovers. Call (312) 665-7400 for details and registration.

Pirates Exhibit Not Worth The Extra Money
by Tellit
The Pirates Exhibit is not worth the extra money for admission. The facts seem completely false-the exhibit seems more like being at Disney than in an educational institution. It is a mistake to bleieve that you can use or must use what is no longer being used by one entertainment venue in an educatinal exhibit-or that facts should be made up to make it more interesting. It was a waste of my time and my money.
- Pros: Large and Varied Exhibits
- Cons: Recent Special Exhibits Have Been Less Than Stellar
FANTASTIC

This museum is so diverse. There are so many different exhibits to see. You can spend many hours here. We are members even though we live in Indiana. They have a great membership program for people more than 100 miles away. We go at least 4 times a year. Very easy to get to.
Don't waste your money on King Tut
by jennie59
The museum on the whole is awesome, but don't waste your money on King Tut. He's not even there! The attraction was over-crowded; and since many others paid for the "audio tour" they were standing in front of the exhibit for long stretches of time, while I wanted to look at it and move on. We went first thing in the morning and it was wall-to-wall people. I am glad that I got the $5 discount from Jewel. "jeweltut" is the password for the discount. We were out of there in 45 minutes. It was a huge disappoinment. Afterwards we had lunch at the Signature Room and strolled Michigan Ave., so the day wasn't a bust, but this was!
King Tut exhibit was a disappointment!
by ajesusfreak316
I had been looking forward to seeing the King Tut exhibit for months. The way it was billed in the advertising truly made it sound as though the famous mummy himself would be there. Going through the crowded exhibit, we did see a lot of cool things from his tomb, and I found my anticipation growing. At the final room, rather than see Tut himself, we were treated to a digital presentation of the mummy. I was one disappointed camper! The museum employee in the final room told us that Tut had been damaged once and could never be moved anymore. That is perfectly understandable, but I think that if this is the case, the advertising for the museum should have made this clear. My husband and I spent extra money to get into the exhibit because we were excited to see Tut, and we don't have a lot of money. I am truly frustrated!
On the other hand, a broader perspective tells me that this is a pretty cool museum with a lot of great stuff in it, a place where we could have spent a couple of days discovering things...
Don't waste your money on the Pompeii Exhibit

The Pompeii exhibit was so overcrowded, it was ridiculous! You could get more out of a book I believe. DO see the Egyptian exhibit, artifacts are amazing!
