Editorial Review for Perry's – by Citysearch Staff
The Scene
Since opening in 1982, Perry's lunchtime lines have run out the door. But the wait is part of the experience. During the usual 15-minute crawl to the counter, read posted humorous newspaper clippings and memorize a kinder Soup Nazi-like list (e.g., "Don't ask for anything low-fat"). Best of all: Answer trivia questions thrown out by Perry himself over the loudspeaker.
The Food
The sandwiches are enormous. Egg salad on wheat (with extra Muenster cheese, as recommended by the staff) is just what it should be. Frenchy's Fantasy--one of Perry's famous triple-deckers--combines mounds of rare roast beef, Swiss cheese, sugar-cured bacon, lettuce and tomato and tops it with Russian dressing. These big boys are almost impossible to eat with bare hands--hence the fork stuck in each sandwich. All sandwiches come with macaroni salad or coleslaw, tiny plastic containers that add the perfect touch to an otherwise extra-large meal.

I live in LA, but was here at the Merchandise MArt on business. Found this place through the reviews already on the site. My God......these sandwiches are huge!!!!! The only thing bigger was the line out the door. So, I get up to order and go with the roast beef sandwich. I don't know how you can write how you people in Chicago say sandwich! There's nothing fancy about this place, but the sandwiches are huge and very delicious. I think two people could easily split a sandwich. Not expensive at all. I also tried the chicken soup, but it wasn't very good. Stick with the sandwiches. My friend had a cornbeef sandwich and also raved about it. Huge tip....don't have your phone on. It says that on the door, but I don't think people read the signs. If your phone rings, some kind of siren goes off and everybody looks at you. Pretty funny since it didn't happen to me!

You can't beat the eats, you can't beat the service! I love Perry's! It is my all-time favorite lunch spot. My favorite is the Pastrami on wheat...mmmmmmmm! You get a great meal and a lot left over for later. If you're smart, you'll do waht I do and have them to wrap your second half separately. Oh, and P.S. - Don't turn on your cell because you will be "ALARMED"! Raisin :)
Pros: Lots of great tasting food, entertainment, and quick seating.
Cons: I can never eat the whole thing.
