N9NE Steakhouse, a sizzling contemporary steakhouse offering a compelling menu of Chicago style prime aged steaks and chops for the true carnivore combined within an internationally diverse menu for those with something else in mind.

N9NE Steakhouse debuted in Chicago in April of 2000. The positive reception by the media has graced N9NE Steakhouse with many reviews and accolades, including N9NE Steakhouse named best new restaurant of 2000 by Chicago Magazine. The Chicago Sun Times labeled N9NE Steakhouse, Chicago's hottest restaurant. According to the Chicago Tribune's 3-star review, N9NE Steakhouse is "a restaurant that's loaded with so much visual flash and so many luxury dining ingredients"... and the restaurant offers "a singular dining experience - even though it's straight forward steak and seafooder at heart".

Editorial Review for N9NE Steakhouse – by J.P. Anderson

The Scene
More than four years after opening its doors, Nine still draws Chicago's beautiful people by the roomful to its glam dining area and hip upstairs Ghost Bar. All glass, mirrors, brown suede and shiny silver, the cavernous, super-sleek space is centered around a granite champagne and caviar bar supported by pillars that shimmer like disco balls. Service flows smoothly.

The Food
The contemporary American fare is consistently excellent. The two cones appetizer is fabulous, one overflowing with tuna tartare, another with chunks of lobster and avocado. Rock shrimp are delightfully crispy, with a mellow tobiko aioli and a Vietnamese pepper sauce that's devilishly hot. Ahi tuna is perfectly pink inside; New York sirloin is charbroiled to perfection. Desserts--including dreamy profiteroles and luscious Valhrona chocolate cake--are all worth saving room for.

My husband and myself had gone for dinner once before and had a memorable experience. In hopes of replicating it, we made reservations for Valentine's Day. We arrived on time and were immediately led to a back room with make shift tables and uncomfortable hard chairs. The service was great, but atmosphere is half of what you pay for. We are both in the design profession and I couldn't get over the loud small room and the stiff seats. Meanwhile, a double story height lounge is a few feet away. I felt like a second class citizen and won't go back because of it. Although the service was good, the food wasn't enough to salvage it. Shame on Nine for packing in all those couples looking for a special night out into a back room.

Pros: Good service

Cons: Not a reliable experience

My compliants to the chef of this resturant, the food is really good, the upstairs bar is a little tight but what better way to meet new people the downstairs bar is great and the service is fabulous if your not from Chicago you have to go to the nine.

Pros: ambience, service

Cons: parking
