Slow Breakfast Service.
We went for Breakfast at noon. Our waiter was clearly hungover. There was no order to how they cooked or served the food... One member of our party was done eating before my food was served over 40 minutes after I put in my bowl.... One member of our party was never served - not sure if they lost their bowl or what happened to it.... We finally just left because we couldn't wait anymore and this person had to eat just the muffins and fruit you can help yourself too... When we left the kitchen was so backed up you couldn't find room to set your bowl down on the front counter. If this is how they handle breakfast I can't imagine how terrible dinner service must be...
If you want breakfast go early because when the after church crowd shows up and slams the kitchen you'll be waiting, maybe forever, to get your food....
Outstanding Stir Fry. My family ate at the Lake St. location. First, if you count calories, this place is for you. A huge board lists all of the ingredients, such as sauces, that are unique to Flat Top Grill. These are broken down by calorie count, nutritional analysis, even weight watchers points. Eating healthy is easy. The kids loved constructing their own meals; and since you choose the ingredients you like, there's no waste. Also, the customer service was a 10. Truely outstanding. The reviewer that griped about food allergies should know that clean woks are used for those people that have contamination concerns.
Fun for All. What a fabulous place, for any event you may have. Great for an intimate date -- the fun ambiance avoids first date awkwardness, but also fun for families and groups. Resonably priced, and wonderful food. Special dishes on weekends too.
Great in the West Loop. This our "hangover cure" restaurant. We live walking distance to this West Loop place. We usually like to go when there's no line, 'cause its not worth the wait really. The format is "Mongolian BBQ" I can't imagine they do things like this in Mongolia. The deal is, you take a bowl and go down a buffet line of raw vegetables, noodles, rice, sauces, marinades and meats to create your own stir fry dish. They also have suggested recipes if you're not feeling too creative. At the end of the line you pass your dish to the cooks, you cook it all all up for you. The servers bring your dish to your table when you are done. Yummy, all you can eat. Go up again as many times as you want. Some might recommend going for lunch, since it's the same stir fry at a lower price.
Fantastic!!!. I'm not definately not big on Thai food, I don't even like Chinese takeout!! BUT, I love FlatTop! You can make anything you want and it doesn't have to taste like Thai food. This is an inexpensive place where a group of people can go with all different tastes and everybody will enjoy.
Still good. I went to one of these when they first opened a few years ago (and enjoyed it). For some reason and I'm not sure why, I haven't been back. I went the other day and had a great time and a terrific meal. I got some great recommendations from our waitress on sauces and she was right on the money. It was a good experience.
