The Scene
Established in 1963 by Jim Dattalo, today the Fudge Pot is run by his son David, who continues to sell the confections of everyone's childhood. A spotlessly clean, bright store, Fudge Pot is known for attracting Wells Street passersby who peek into the below street-level store to watch the fudge being stirred and formed.
The Goods
Indulge in old-fashioned, melt-in-your-mouth confections that include fudge and then go way beyond. Fudge Pot's tempting creations make excellent gifts--treat yourself, too. Choose from more than 300 chocolate molds, plenty of sports-related chocolate lollipops (football, baseball, ice skating) and chocolate bars for the car enthusiast (Porsche, Ferrari, Jaguar, Cadillac). Seasonal and holiday chocolates are always a hit, as is the toodle (chocolate, caramel and pecans).

The store (the system won't let me use the name of the store because apparently the store name contains an "inappropriate" word) may have some of the best fudge and truffles I have ever had, but customer service leaves much to be desired. I stopped by yesterday (Tuesday, September 11, 2007, around 5:00pm) to inquire about doing a customized piece with company logo for about 80 people. I was summarily dismissed with "it's gonna cost you" as if I was wasting their time. It was rude and uncalled for. There was no attempt to discuss what the store can do. He just looked as us as if we wouldn't be able to afford the $350.00 mold fee. I live just down the street and stop by often. The store has just told me it is not interested in my business.

We tried their butter toffee on a food tour and have since had it shipped to us in Georgia twice, and also sent as a gift. They also make cool molds (e.g. a chocolate dachsund that we gave my sister-in-law for Christmas). We love the place!
