The Scene
Quick-on-the-draw cashiers ring up beef sandwiches, burgers and sausage in front of a blazing-hot smoking grill, while a lone deli guy at an adjacent counter offers freshly made cold sandwiches. The spartan decor consists of posters, newspaper clippings and autographed photos of Mr. Beef fans, from Jerry Springer to Jay Leno, all singing the praises of the shop's sandwich.
The Food
The menu is all meat: Italian beef, sausage, burgers, chicken, deli sandwiches and chili with meat and beans. Don't miss the beef sandwich, soaked in jus but still firm, served on a perfectly chewy bun with or without American cheese or sweet or hot peppers. It's the definitive Chicago beef, and it far outshines the thin burgers. Fries come in a bag--crisp, skinny and delicious.

We're pretty sure, anyway - it was awesome. The shop is tiny and the guys behind the counter are characters. Lose the snobby attitude if you have one - they won't stand for it, and neither will the rest of the patrons. This is the kind of place that people frequent - once you go, you want to go back. Get your beef with sweet or hot peppers - we can't decide which is better.

I had the turkey sandwich here once and it was fantastic! I think it had about 8 lbs. of meat in it.
