The Scene – Though it never was a private club, it always had the feel of one--still does. Service is good (you won't be neglected), though far from refined, and occasionally brusque. It appears as if nothing has changed since it opened in 1941--except the prices. Most of the customers are men; few are younger than 40. – – The Food – Call it classic Italian steakhouse cuisine. The 18-ounce filet mignon stands four inches tall, charred to a crisp on the outside and bloody rare in the middle, just as ordered. The salmon's worth a try, too; a mammoth slab of nicely cooked…

A Chicago Tradition

by Andy 222 at Citysearch

Living in Chicago G&G is a part of Chicago history. Living 20 miles south of Chicago I drive by thousands of restaurants to get there but it’s worth it. The food is always great and the service is no nonsense!

Portions are large and the quality is top notch!! Best lamb chops in the country! Chicken Vesuvio is another homerun. Spumoni to die for!

  • Pros: Great Steaks
  • Cons: There is only one!

Best food in town

by Sammy G at Citysearch

This was my first trip to Gene and Georgetti and it was as good as I have heard. I am from Atlanta and have been told by friends from Chicago that when visiting I MUST eat there.

I had the best steak I have ever eaten. The portions were more than generous and the service was of the highest quality.

I will certainly return on my next trip to Chicago.

  • Pros: Quality, portion size and service
  • Cons: None

Done that

by TallTex at Citysearch

I have been there on each trip to Chicago. Always been a great place. Sorry to hear they have fallen down on the job. I read reviews and negative outweigh the positives. FYI: My first visit I did not understand the the scene, and our reservation time came and went, so I joked with the maître d' about our reservation time and he liked my attitude and Texas accent, (laughed with me and asked me where I was from) so we were sat in minutes. You tourists may need to try that, and a firm handshake with some green in it. "Uncle Larry" took us there, he worked down the street form them for 40 years and was a regular. When I started making jokes with the maître d' about it, he quietly pulled me aside to inform me that "Wiseguys get sat first!" At first this Texan did not quite understand so I made him repeat it with my puzzled look. I finally "got it" but by then we were being sat with the other "wiseguys" that do not wait to be sat at G&G's.

  • Pros: Use to be a great Steak/Chop and service
  • Cons: Wait even with reservation
