What Our Expert Scouts Say

Brett's Kitchen

It's refreshing to see a spot in this area that doesn't try to overachieve and doesn't claim to be particularly inventive. Breakfast (omelets, oatmeal, French toast) is simple and tasty.

Bretts is the best. Ignore that bad review. I work right by Bretts and eat lunch there often. It is yummy yummy. It gets a little crazy around lunch time but it is worth the wait. The employees are really sweet and a lot of fun! I recommend the grill cheese and chili. There specials are really good to!

Great food, but the employees really make this a great place.. The employees, while running full tilt to assist customers, always have smiles on their faces. The food is expensive, even by Chicago standards, but it's clean, wholesome, and tasty. They offer delivery service to the River North area for a dollar. Nice when it's raining!

Stay away from Brett's. Rude manager, Inconsistant food. No Parking. Very high priced for what it realy is. Burgers are frozen. Want bacon on it? $2.50. Save your money, buy a condo down the block. After while you get tired of paying for some elses high rent.

Best Mom and Pop Joint. Brett's Kitchen is absolutely the greatest - hands down. Going in almost every week for the best tasting, non-greasy burger - which can turn into a double cheeseburger when asked. Best best juicy Ruben and the soup is unbelievable. Fish Taco Fridays are amazingly delicious. It's a great little joint and sometimes it's hard with seating - and sometimes lines look daunting - but they are fast and worth waiting for quality.

Plus you cannot beat the prices.

The service is friendly and the family truly cares about what they do.

When I branched out and asked them for delivery for our studio - they were always helpful, worked within a budget and were always on time. They are a mom and pop place that normally needs lots of notice, but they were so sweet and helpful to work with me for last minute notices for the studio down the street.

Go check them out - the happyness is infectious - just be sure to smile.

Casual corner diner in the River North gallery district does brisk takeout business at breakfast and lunch.. The Scene
Grab a number and wait your turn at the counter, where short-order cooks dance around one another making sandwiches and frying burgers. Seating in the narrow space is limited to a handful of small tables, but most orders are takeout anyway. Not much atmosphere, but fruit-motif tiles and painted wood benches add touches of color.

The Food
Brett's chalkboard menu lists omelets, French toast and oatmeal for breakfast; lunch comprises soups, salads and a large selection of sandwiches. Tuna salad's fresh and moist, and Mexican-style chicken breast is dressed up with avocado on a crispy pita. Vegetarians have plenty to choose from, including a veggie-stuffed pita with sesame sauce and a Friday special of vegetarian chili with corn and black beans.

Shun Delivery. They're food is very good. It's a fast, healthy and delicious deli-style meal. I do not recommend delivery. They have messed up too many orders in our office and take too long to delivery. Very unreliable.

Served with a Smile. Speedy, quality food that you can rely on from an adorable neighborhood diner/cafe. Now with the cute outdoor seating this place is sure to be buzzing with business. They deserve it. After all, the food is fresh, the service is tight and the prices are fair.
