Chicago Chop House

Where the city that works eats

  • Award-winning steaks
  • Award-winning wine List
  • Holiday parties

Located in an immaculately restored, century-old Victorian brownstown in the popular River North neighborhood, visiting us is like visiting Chicago's colorful past. More than 1400 historical photos tell the tale of old Chicago when meat-packers, politicians and gangsters vied for control.

If you are looking for the taste of true Chicago you will find it here. An awe-inspiring 64-oz porterhouse, 12 and 16-oz New York Strips and a 20-oz prime rib are all served charred and bursting with prime-aged flavor. We offer only USDA Prime steaks that are hand-cut on the premises. Chicago Magazine, awarded our New York Boneless Strip Steak the "Best" in Chicago.

Editorial Review for Chicago Chop House – by J.P. Anderson

The old-boy network is alive and well at Chicago Chop House, a conservative steak joint with a country-club feel and a corporate, mostly male, clientele. Brass railings, hunter-green walls and wood accents make up the decor; framed black-and-white photographs of Chicago gangsters, mayors and meat packers past lend an old-time Chicago feel. No surprises, just high-quality steakhouse standards like lightly fried calamari, creamy oysters Rockefeller, basic salads and plenty of red meat. Servers push the New York strip, and for good reason--this thick, juicy cut is smoky, tender and flavorful. Daily surf-and-turf specials are worth trying, too: One pairs a melt-away 10-ounce filet with a five-ounce lobster tail. The lunch menu's gourmet burger is a 10-ouncer studded with bits of onion and green pepper.

I've been to the Chicago Chop House several times this year and the steak there is always great! I always order the seared Chop House Prime Rib special...so good! And it accompanies a salad and potato at a reasonable price. What more can you ask for!

Pros: Steak, Service, Price

Cons: None I can think of.

4 Star Rating: Recommended

We were seated promptly and in a timely manner and that is always a good start on a busy saturday night. Our server was nice but lacked a little when it came to a warm welcoming. Ok now the food is great, we had the shrimp and crab cakes for starters, and all thier main courses come with house salad and choice of mashed or baked potatoes. me and my wife both had steaks whcih were good but not the best in town, lets be honest now.The service is good too but not the best. The scene is nice and great for local patrons. But i just can't give them the 5 star rating, bcz there is simply other places that deserve it more.

Pros: Atmosphere, and live piano

Cons: service
