Editorial Review for Kinzie Chophouse – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
A plum location across from the Merchandise Mart keeps this dimly lit steakhouse buzzing. Lunch highlights include the classic Chophouse salad with mixed greens, sliced tomatoes, bell peppers and cucumbers, and the crab-cake sandwich served on a toasted onion roll with roasted red-pepper aioli. Steaks come in a variety of cuts and sizes, from a 12-ounce dry-aged New York to a 48-ounce porterhouse for two. Side dishes include sauteed spinach and mushrooms.

When the server comes to the table with a basket of small slices of RAISIN BREAD(??) and Italian bread both of which are ice cold, and herbed butter that is still frozen, one would think the only way to go was up. Wrong! The supposed Caesar salad was limp with barely a hint of what tasted more like vinegar and oil than Caesar dressing. Since everything was ala carte, (salad, veges, potato of any sort) perhaps the Caesar dressing was ala carte also. Obviously any type of seasoning/steak butter/ wine sauce on the steak was ala carte also since it was completely lacking in any type of seasoning, etc and also lacked even a grilled taste. One steak was ordered medium rare, the other medium. The server did not know which was which and in cutting each steak, it was impossible to tell. This definitely is the poorest excuse for a steakhouse that we have ever patronized. We went to Kinzie on the recommendation of the concierge at our hotel. If it were possible to give a lower rating that 1 star, it would definitely get zero stars. If anyone recommends this restaurant, RUN, DON'T WALK IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION!!!
Pros: This is definitely a thumbs down. There were no pros to this meal. The only pro was leaving the restaurant.
Cons: Quality of food, half frozen bread, frozen butter, steaks cooked incorrectly and gristly

Well the bar was the only highlight of the night, it is pretty hard to mess a drink up. I thought the steak was below average, I think I could see where the jockey was hitting it, I could get the same NY Strip at the Jewel. After being to almost all the steak houses in Chicago, I would say Gibsons, Chicago Chop House, Gene and G, Smith & Wol, Ruth Chris. And twenty later Kinzie, don't waste your money here!!!
