Editorial Review for Mother Hubbard's – by Peter Behle

The Scene
Pool tables and a vast array of TVs make it a great place to gather for a game. Mother Hubbard's subscribes to pretty much all the satellite sports feeds, so if you want to watch a particular game, this is the place to come. It's usually on the quiet side in the late afternoon and early evening when Loop and River North workers stop by for a belt on the way home. Later, it can get a tad rowdy with fans rooting on their favorite teams.

The Draw
Mother Hubbard's offers burgers, chicken sandwiches, Mexican food, pizza, ribs and other fare to complement the gallons of beer consumed after work. A great draft beer selection is available.

A few friends and I wanted to stop in Mother's Hubbard's after the Superbowl on Sunday. We were all out at a restaurant, didn't drink too much during the game, being a Giants fan from NJ, I wanted to hold off on partying to see if they won. We walked to Mother's Hubbard's to celebrate, the manager was bouncing and when he saw my giants hat before we even opened our mouth, said he thought we were wasted and couldn't be allowed in. We thought he was kidding, and questioned what made him think so to which he just shrugged and then moved aside and we thought he was kidding and walked in. Then most of the bar was in fact wasted, went to get 3 beers at the bar and the bartender wouldn't serve us and I said why, and he knew we weren't wasted but said he was told by the manager he couldn't serve us. So we left, and found another bar that was welcoming to Giants fan and out of towners. I've lived in Chicago for 4 years and had never been discriminated against because I was from NY/NJ area but had heard that it happens in Chicago from a number of people...just didn't think it would of happened the night they won the Superbowl.
