What People Are Saying About Zebra Lounge

Lights are low, and black, faux-leather booths implore patrons to lounge. The zebra-stripe motif goes from lampshades over the bar to the alternating strips of mirror and dark wood that adorn part of one wall. Tunes are restrained but well-known, from mellow rock to a jazzy jolt of Bobby Darin. The Zebra Lounge would be totally nouveau-retro, but it's been around for decades and has refused to change, making it, instead, a classic.

Real Friendly Place

by kbeergirl at Citysearch

If you want to go out and meet new friends this is the place. Don`t be shy just talk to complete strangers and it`s easy to strike up a conversation because the live music is at a level were you can actually talk without shouting. The bartenders remember your drink and are very nice to everyone, she is beautiful and he`s not bad at all. The drinks are reasonable but the best part is the diverse crowd of people from all walks of life. It`s never the same experience always something a little different. It is a very nice crowd of people.

  • Pros: The women are great here.
  • Cons: The bathroom

I love this place!

by elviseguan at Citysearch

What a cool lounge! Been in the area about a year, and just discovered it. It's kind of off the beaten path, locationwise, which is good, cuz' otherwise you'd never be able to get in! The atmosphere is dark and sexy, the bartenders are excellant, prices are reasonable(for the Gold Coast) the lounge lizard piano players are great, and the clientel is diverse and attractive. Consider me a new regular!

  • Pros: great service, dark & romantic, live entertainment
  • Cons: none

Grouchy people need not apply

by gaj324 at Citysearch

The Zebra Lounge is definitely one of my favorite places in Chicago. This tiny hole-in-the-wall (literally) has a great, laid back atmosphere with probably the oddest mix of people you'll ever see. On any given night you'll see the young hipsters, the Gold Coast yuppies, conventioneers, and the omnipresent Bachelorette party along with all of the regulars of course. The staff is always friendly and remembers you on return visits. Of course the main attraction is the piano. This is about as authentic a Lounge Lizard experience as you'll ever get in the 'oughts. Basically, if you like to have a good ol' time and laugh a lot, go to the Zebra. If you take yourself real seriously and want to be part of a "scene", there are about a million other bars out there for you.

  • Pros: Fun atmosphere, good music
  • Cons: expensive drinks
