Old grandfather clocks chime throughout your visit to this quaint River North shop..
Jay Robert's brick façade looks like an old London shop that could have "Ye Olde" in front of its title. Customer service is wary; a buzzer and a suspicious look from the staff gets you in the front door. Two huge floors are jammed with furniture and collectibles--the tight quarters suggest leaving clumsy friends at home.
Impressive grandfather clocks are prominently featured, along with hand-carved wood bookshelves that showcase leather-bound volumes by Tolstoy and Balzac. Check out old globes that are both art piece and history. Old-fashioned door knockers--like the kind you'd find on Jacob Marley's door--line the walls. Visit the warehouse's second level for stained-glass windows and doors, iron bed frames and English pub signs.
