Editorial Review for Hotel Sax Chicago – by Lucy Kahn
In Short
Formerly the House of Blues Hotel, this luxury stay underwent a $17 million overhaul. The lobby boasts Italian marble floors and a unique take on the standard front desk--custom-crafted curiosity cabinets filled with crystal. Upscale amenities include 320 thread-count Egyptian cotton linens, 42-inch flat-screen televisions and Baronessa Cali bath amenities. Grounded at the base of Marina City, the House of Blues, 10pin and Bin 36 are a hop, skip and a jump away.

We popped into the Lounge at Hotel Sax Chicago before a show at House of Blues. The attitude at this place is unbearable. The tight shirt wearing, over-tanned, no-neck bartender looked me over from bottom to top to bottom before smirking and asking "wat can I getcha?" I ordered 5 drinks and handed him a one-hundred dollar bill. That was apparently enough to earn the privilege to sit at his bar.

The hotel was something different. Not the cookie cutter rooms in other hotels. The lobby bar was packed and fun every night. The location was great, close to everything. The rates were very low for the location. The restaurant in the lobby was terrible. There are much better places to eat close by.
Pros: Ambiance
Cons: $16 per person to work out
