Interesting but you really need to like this subject. This was different. I learned alot! Certainly not for kids. Neat little stuff in the gift shop. Real easy to get to on the bus. It you want to do something out of the ordinary, this it it!

Great find!. Small, quirky museum has a number of medical exhibits on a number of subjects that are tastefully presented. Highlights include ones on the history of x-rays including an old device to measure foot size and other old equipment. Another exhibit shows a number of heart implantation devices while others show photos of gallstones. Plan on spending an hour or so here. The museum is on a bus route and is in a nice neighborhood but sometimes is open at weird times, so make sure they will be open when you plan on visiting.

Get a glimpse into the history of surgical techniques and instruments at this unusual Gold Coast museum.. The Scene
Housed in a gorgeous mansion on Lake Shore Drive, the International Museum of Surgical Science contains a remarkable display of surgical devices and techniques dating from Roman times. Each room in the museum has its own theme--either geographical or procedural--and several rooms contain predecessors to today's forceps, syringes and speculums. Other rooms feature gruesome paintings of early surgical procedures. This museum is not for the squeamish.

The Collection
Highlights include the Hall of the Immortals, a room that contains life-sized statues of important figures in medical history standing in a circle in an otherwise empty room. The X-ray Room is filled with large machinery that was used before anyone was fully aware of radioactive material's impact on the human body. Included in this room is an Adrian X-ray Shoe Fitter, which shoe stores commonly used in the '50s as a way for customers to determine how well their shoes fit.

Check it out!. I love this quirky museum. A hidden gem, the mansion alone is worth a visit. Don't miss the fascinating gallstone display. A great way to spend a rainy Saturday.
