Tips for Hair Cuttery

Blew It. I don't require much when it comes to getting my hair cut... I try out a few places - a few of the staff - settle on one that I like - and that's it.... I'm loyal as long as they're around - and generally tip 40-50%. Well, after going to this place for around 6 months - I arrived recently & was told I'd have to wait about 20 minutes as there was somebody ahead of me. No problem - I waited - about 25 minutes later I was told that it'd be 'about 10 more minutes' because a family member had shown up unexpectedly wanting a cut. Ooookay - you're bumping loyal clients so your own family can get serviced immediately & without prior notice... nice policy! But hey, I'm an easy going guy - I've got family too... so while a bit annoyed - I was cool with it - After all.... what's 10 minutes? Besides, I really need a cut.

Well folks - MY cut would have taken 15 minutes - I'm a no frills guy... but after waiting a total of an hour & 20 minutes while observing my stylist gingerly cater to her own family member in a manner that wasn't even REMOTELY close to resembling any sense of urgency - I was done. WIth kids & work, I've got precious little time to get ANYthing done for ME on the wknd - and this already forced me to scrap a couple plans. I got up - walked out - and vowed never to return. In fact, I actually went right across the street to Supercuts and was seated w/in 5 minutes - and no folks.... it's not because their quality is so much lower - basically the same.

Bottom line is that you don't bump clients so your own family can cut in line. And if you DO disrespect them in this way - give them SOME kind of reasonable expectation as to how long they'd REALLY have to wait - don't say 10 minutes when it turns out to be another 45 minutes plus. Don't make them wait quadruple the amount of time they were initially told because you're too embarrased to tell them the truth - because trust me... they'll find out eventually - you'll lose that client - and they may even end up ticked off enough to write a review.
