The Scene
Built in 1929 as the Medinah Men's Athletic Center, this architecturally significant hotel has seen many layers of paint. A remodeling project, completed in 2001, took the design back mostly to its original state; Italian art conservator Lido Lippi (a consultant on the Sistine Chapel restoration) restored artistic details. An updated facade opens into the new four-story rotunda lobby, with spiral staircase and impressive mosaic and marble floors. The fitness center features an ornately appointed junior Olympic indoor pool.

The Details
The 807-room hotel (72 suites) caters to both business and family travelers with a prime Michigan Avenue location. Standard rooms are comfortable, complete with terry bath robes, a 27-inch TV, large desk and dual-line phone. Many rooms have city or lake views.

This hotel is great location. Rooms are very nicely decorated with comfortable beds. You must see the pool even if you do not swim. This is grandest looking pool in Chicago.

At 5:30 AM 0n april 13, 2006 I was waken from my sleep by water coming through the ceiling over my bed. I am 80 years old, and it shook me up. I called the desk and a handy man came up. His comment was looks like a leak. They tore out the ceiling. The Asst Mgr. (Not Freindly) comped for 1 day. Day Mgr. (not freindly) Said have a nice day.Noby was friendly. I guess that is HOTEL Policy. Never Again Stay There.
