dont waste your time at this dump

by muffingirl

This place is absolutely horrible. We walked into our rooms to be greeted by a stained carpet. I don't want to know with what... The table looked like a beaver had gotten to it and then put through the wash with a corner BITTEN off. The fridge wasn't cold as they took the cooling units out years ago to save $ I suppose. Also, we were greeted by the smell of old, rotting pizza and then found it in the "fridge". We had to walk halfway around the building to bring back ice by the bucket several times to cool our drinks . The swimming pool in the photo is false as well. It was about the size of a bath tub with about 60 screaming splashing kids . We stayed away from the faintly yellow water. The neighbors in all directions were loud and I hardly slept in the duvet cover they probably cleaned 5 years ago. The filthy, greasy couch sagged and overall I have no idea how this place got 4 stars. I will say the concierge was extremely helpful so that was a plus and the room was pretty big, but not enough to come back. Not worth the money!!!!

Pros; concierge and room size

Cons; everything else, dont waste your money at this dump

Excellent Hotel - Celebrated New Year's Eve

by chicagonye

This is by far one of the best hotels I've stayed in. Service was superior and the location is the BEST. Walking distance from everything!

I stayed there last year for New Year's Eve and attended the NYE event at the hotel and it over-exceeded my expectations. No drink lines, real top shelf brands, and good food.

Best part was there was an option to see a live band or a DJ with two ballrooms so it made it fun to check out both rooms.

I'll probably go again this year.....

this place sucks

by j stahl

What a disappointment. The hotel was extremely dirty and misleading. At best this is a 2 star hotel. Body fluids left on bedding/old dried out carrots in the fridge. A view of a brick wall, not to mention the torn lamp shades, dust and grime. Th hotel restaurant was voted best in the city, 10 years ago!! The cheesecart has been gone for 5 years, probably the last time they cleaned. Upon returning from our "vacation" we left our luggage outside until we could wash everything, I was concerned of bedbugs. What a dump. The worst hotel ever for a price of over $250 per night, and we are from Detroit. Spend the extra $20 and stay at the Drake. The staff is trained to lie and mislead their customers and really dont care if you are happy or not. Based on this visit I WOULD NEVER EVER VISIT CHICAGO OR ANY WYNDHAM AGAIN. If you dont take my advise, stop by the Capital Grill for another gouging. What a terrible experience.

  • Pros: great place to get a $6 english muffin
  • Cons: very very dirty and misleading

Great location and customer service!

by raviolirinaldi

The Wyndham Chicago is truly in one of the best neighborhoods in Chicago. It is within walking distance to almost all tourist attractions (Warning -we are New Yorkers so our idea of walking distance may be greater than yours!), extremely clean, and well worth the money.

We arrived at noon (3 hours early) and our room was ready. We were taken to our room on the 17th floor (top floor) which had a great view of the city. Room was clean, nothing extremely fancy, but had all of the necessary amenities. We immediately went to the concierge desk to ask for a lunch recommendation. The concierge on duty, Katie, was great. She gave us several recommendations as well as a map and guide to the city. She also gave us a pamphlet for the Chicago Jazz Festival. Later that weekend we also had wonderful service from a concierge named Russell. He gave us a special pass for Gino's pizza that we skipped the line and went right in! He also gave us the key to the minibar so that we may keep our leftovers in there. He made us a feel like family and whenever we passed the desk said hello and asked if we were still full from our pizza!

The Wyndham is truly a gem of a hotel with wonderful service in a great location. We would recommend it to anyone.

  • Pros: great location, wonderful service, clean no frills rooms
  • Cons: If looking for luxury this is not for you
