In Short – Like other well-worn Gold Coast hotels, the Tremont's 120 guest rooms and suites sport the feel of a vintage apartment building. Most rooms are European-style, with only a single bed and tiny bathroom. Located just across Michigan Ave. from the Hancock Tower, the hotel provides an ideal base for tourists and conventioneers. Iron Mike's Grill (coach Ditka's classy joint) abuts the intimate lobby, which is decorated with historical prints of Chicago mixed with modern abstracts.
Editor's Tips
- Know Before You Go:
- The Tremont Hotel is located next to the Tremont House, which contains a dozen studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments for extended stays.
- Parking:
- The hotel's valet service charges $38 for overnight parking. Cheaper options can be found around the corner at numerous self-parking lots.

Great hotel BUT..

It's a great hotel but if any of you are looking to save some $$ then book it at goo.gl/FPxYD They have some of the best hotel deals on the web!
Great location, nice staff, awful room
by Iowamy
Self Parking is very close, easy to walk anywhere, staff was nice and helpful to us. Room was awful, furniture needs to be replaced its falling apart and the mirror was broken. Bed was beyond hard you could feel the springs and metal frame. Rips in chair and tops of tables were ruined, wall paper was peeling in bathroom and cabinet was in bad shape. Bathroom also smelled like sewer gas entire trip. Windows were very drafty I would hate to stay in winter you would freeze. Pillow also smelled like smoke. Hallway and elevator while clean were all in need of repairs. Elevator took forever and shook like crazy. Lobby was clean and charming although stong smelling candles make me think they are trying to hide bad smells. I get it this is a small old hotel but there is no excuse for the state of disrepair this hotel is in. This hotel should be a one star at most and then only for its location, and the price, for the condition its in, should be under $60 a night regardless of how close it is to the Mag Mile. Will not be staying again.
Little gem
by ohowironic
All the previous reviewers regarding this charming little gem on the Mag Mile should stop in and visit. Although the lobby has not changed, the rooms themselves have vastly improved. I have stayed here several times througout the year and have seen the difference. The rooms are brighter and feel refreshed. The staff at the front desk is great. They are always friendly no matter what they have to deal with. Which brings me to state: when you book a room for less than $100. Are you really expecting the Ritz? I give kudos to the Tremont for their efforts to keep their little known gem polished. Love the Fridge Burgers at Ditka's too.!
Worst hotel stay ever
by ironsij0287
How is this place rated 9.1? Please take the other reviews people have written to heart before considering staying there. There are so many hotels in that area that I see no reason whatsoever to recommend staying at the Tremont. The rooms are small, which I can deal with given that its an old hotel, but the rooms and hallways had poor paintjobs, the place smelled musty, the bed was horribly uncomfortable. While some of the front desk staff were nice one gentleman in praticular was incredibly snooty to not just us but other guests that were at the front desk when we were. The only pro I can say for this place is the location, but again, that can be said for numerous other hotels in the area and their rooms didn't look like a hotel in Baghdad. Stay away at all costs
- Pros: Location
- Cons: Everything Else
9.0 or 0.9?
by lopico
How this hotel is a 9.0 I will never know. The rooms are small and dated, the people at the front desk were rude, the shower in my room had tiles missing and looked disgusting. Doe that deserve a 9.0? The location was a plus and it was comfortable , but I would not reccomend it.
