The Scene – The classic elegance of the lobby and 435 guest rooms is a stark contrast to neighboring Water Tower Place's modernism. The decor is lush but conservative with marble floors, grand floral arrangements and upholstered furniture in fine fabrics. There's North Michigan Avenue and the Museum of Contemporary Art around the corner. – – – The Details – Guests may take advantage of the "I Need It Now Program": At any time of day, more than 100 travel "essentials," from cufflinks to bobby pins, are available for delivery to your room. Top notch service but the amenities are just a notch below
by pinipig523
The service is top notch but several things bugged me which bring my rating to 4 out of a possible 5.
1. The valet is totally un-Ritz-like. If you stand there and wait for your car.... just listen to the conversations that go on. Very rude and unprofessional topics. Swear words and all.
Now I don't really care - usually. But NOT at a 5 star hotel and NOT at the Ritz. This should not be allowed from their staff.
2. Old and aging hotel. Not the newest and the ballrooms and restaurants show. They did renovate the entrance lobby and the big ballroom so who knows how it is now.... but when I visited last time, it was not impressive.
3. Bathrooms are lackluster. No separate showers. Only a bathtub with a shower curtain. Not acceptable for a 5 star chain.
Great Afternoon experience
by fumikops
The best way I can describe afternoon tea at the Ritz - Luxurious, relaxing, delicious. The staff was friendly, welcoming and attentive. The area is spacious and comfortable which allows people to privately enjoy their afternoon tea. The only minor complaint is that the water fountain statue near my table was a little noisy. I am looking forward to my next visit!
- Pros: ambience, service, food
- Cons: none

I've stayed in this hotel several times when I visit Chicago - and it couldn't be a better location for shopping, dining, and nightlife! The staff is incredibly gracious and helpful.
Great Hotel!

The Ritz-Carlton completely lived up to my expectations of a true luxury hotel: lovely accommodations; great service (concierge remembered my name); great food & great location.
